Rescue Me ID: 18-01-17-00126Bolt (male)

Catahoula Mix

Health: Needs to be Neutered, Abused/Neglected

This dog was found as a stray at a industrial warehouse in a desolate area off a very busy highway. Through searching venues, no one has stepped up to claim. We named him Bolt although he doesn't respond to any name. Dog has not been neutered and it is unknown if he has ever been vaccinated. He appears healthy, and is extremely happy, loving and active. Due to his Catahoula nature, he is strong and probably needs to be in a one dog Home. He deserves a good home. Vet references required

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Alabama
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Alabama if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
