Hello all! My name is Maggie and I am an Australian Shepherd mix (possibly with catahoula) who is excited to find my very own furever family! I'm about 1.5 years old and approximately 26lbs, so I'm on the smaller side. Some of you may remember me from my somewhat viral first Facebook appearance when I was found with a broken leg left at a shelter in rural Alabama with my little puppy, Sadie! (Now ASF Alumi, Winter!) I had surgery on my leg (yuck!) and had to recover from that but I was determined to heal quickly and get back to running full speed, and here I am doing just that! You can barely tell it even happened once I get warmed up, but I ... (Read More)do have a slight limp when I first wake up and sometimes I stop using my leg that was hurt but only for a moment and it doesn't slow me down a bit! I am always happy, sweet and loving, I love to run and play, and I LOVE playing with kids. My foster mom's 2 youngest babies are always covered in Maggie kisses! I am good with other dogs, good in a kennel, and my foster mom says just a good little dog all around! I'm medium energy... I adjust to what everyone else is doing. I'm good inside and don't jump on people, I can lay at your feet or run the back yard at full speed and be happy either way. My foster mom doesn't have any cats but she thinks I would do fine with cats as nothing really bothers me and I don't bark much at all. I am awaiting heartworm treatment and will be spayed before being adopted, but my time is coming and I will be ready before we know it!!! If you are interested in adopting Maggie please fill out an application at http://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application. Her adoption fee is $275 all proceeds go towards future rescues. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Alabama
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Alabama if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost Alabama Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
