**FOSTERED IN HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, CA** FOSTER MOM WRITES: My daughter and I found a dog dumped in the local Walmart parking lot. She looked to be a half grown puppy and was scared to death---laying beside any truck until the people came and drove off, then she would go to another truck and wait. Pretty obvious she was booted from a truck. She'd been out there in the cold and dark for 5 hours. My daughter and I lured her into the back of the car with Mac's burgers and took her to my vet where I boarded her for five months until I could get the yard fenced. She has been spayed, all of her shots weighs 51 pounds. She is a big goof who loved to play ball then go "bye bye" car for a latte with me (they give her treats at the cafe drive thru) When I first got her I could not get her to go into or out of a car, she had no idea what a leash was and the only "toy" she recognized was a stick. The most intelligent dog I have ever known. I found out about the stick because she brought one to me and set it down. I thought she was going to chew on it but she looked at me and then picked it up and threw it up in the air, catching it---then looked at me again as if asking if I understood. She loves balls that squeak, like the felt covered balls you can get in packages. She knows how to "sit" on command and looks up at me expectantly. She used to jump up on people, she does not do that now unless really excited and "sit" calms her down. She will lick the heck out of your face if you let her. Loves being petted and groomed. She is fully house broken--will let you know when its time. She is on heartworm and flea prevention medication. She was leery of men initially though she took to my doggie sitter who is a middle aged man after a short I-think-I'll-watch-and-see with him and he did not press it. Now she adores him, greets him at the door with her tail doing a rhumba. She loves walking and going to new places now that she trusts me--we go to the feed store, coffee drive thru, dog park (for ball throwing), the vet (she keeps in touch with the young ladies there that brought her out of her shell--who initially named her "chicken"). She will come when I call her---once the four of them got out thru my front door and had treed a neighbor cat and Lilly was the only one who came to me when I called. So CATS are an IF and POSSIBLE. On the negative side, she is now one of four dogs that she did not grow up with and they are much older and are giving her a bit of the business. The pack dynamics are not good for her as she is an energetic puppy of about 18 months and they are middle aged. She is not good for them and we did not plan to keep her, we just wanted to save her and help her find her forever home. She is also possessive of toys and a tease like some Catahoulas can be--so I take her out by herself to play catch which she will do easily nonstop for an hour--most of the time bringing it back to me. She is becoming possessive of affection as well--trying to push her way into the middle when the other dogs are being petted which is very typical of a Catahoula that is missing what is lost and feeling the need for extra perks to give her security. I must work out of the area for three days a week and the doggie sitter cannot spend much time with them--they spend most time in their crates during this time and she is very crate broke.. It would be ideal if she was in a one dog home with people who understand how her little Catahoula head works. She really needs to be someone's special lass. She is curious about other dogs when we go to the vet but not the aggressor unless the other dog starts going of then like a true catahoula she stands her ground. She adores women, and has learned to bond to a man with patience and slow introductions. We know she is a mix but not sure what she is mixed with. She shows plenty of Catahoula, maybe some Ridgeback in there, a little bit, hound? Not sure. She is a sweet love and she is lonesome to belong and not have to be boarded or kenneled with our life style. Lilly is strictly a house dog--she will not go to a home that keeps her outside away from her people. She is a people dog and needs her forever. If you want to commit to this nice girl forever.. please contact Janeen for an adopt application. No obligation to fill one out and see if she is the right match for you. (Less)

Animal ID: RC SJ CALADY EBONY-JJ (female)
**FREMONT CALIFORNIA IN FOSTER CARE** Lady is a 8 month old Catahoula mix (possibly shepherd/doberman) utd on shots, spayed Completely house/crate trained. She's amazingly fast and athletic, can flip, spin and change direction like the big kids with energy to spare! Plays rough, but does well with ONE other dog. (two dogs and she gets a little overwhelmed, but can manage if a human is nearby supervising) She enjoys playing fetch with her person and tug/chase games with other dogs. She needs more practice walking on a leash, but LOVES the car. When she sees the leash AND the car keys, she can barely contain her excitement! She is very smart and eager to please, has so much love she wants to give, if she can get you in a 'hug' - she'll drown you in kisses! Lady got a late start being socialized but will now do ok in public places. No more barking or growling on neutral turf! She does need more work on her own territory, she is still a little nervous and will bark at people she doesn't know. She needs a person that can make her feel safe, let her know she doesn't always have to protect herself.Lady seems to blossom daily in her setting. IF INTERESTED IN FOREVER GIVING HER A HOME, please contact Janeen Jackson firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 406-323-3519 for an adopt application (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-13-00191Snickers (male)
UPDATE: ADOPTION PENDING. He's athletic, he's sweet as can be, and SUPER smart! He's still growing up and learning the ropes, but with a consistent, calm, and confident person or family, Snickers will be a great companion and wonderful addition to any dog savvy - forever home. He's foster mom tells us that he's great with other dogs, learns commands quickly and loves to snuggle (sit on you, in your lap or really close to you! HA!) Snickers came to his foster family a bit scared of the world and skittish around men, BUT with only being in his foster home for less than two days he was already snuggling with the foster dad and mom and learning how to lay down, sit, and confidently walk on a leash. He's foster mom and dad just ADORE this boy and want to find the VERY best home for him to feel safe and secure so that he can blossom into the confident little guy he can be. He needs a home that will give him the exercise, love, and time that he deserves. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-25-00597Fletcher (male)
My wife and rescued 7 year ago Fletcher, Catahoula mix in September 2013. He was found stray in rural Indiana. We believe came from an abused past. He has had a very hard time adjusting. We have given him alot of love and patience, but I'm afraid some of the things he needs we cannot give him in the city. He's from the farm land and really needs a place we're he can roam more freely with some other dogs. He loves exploring outdoors and loves other dogs. He is really comfortable in these settings. The ideal owner would have property where he can explore all day since he loves being outdoors, and this area would need to be fenced since he is not yet trusted off leash. Also ideally his owner would have other dogs to play with as I sense he is missing a dog that he use to bound with and he loves playing with dogs his size. Also calm, patient, caring owners is very important since he may have been abused in the past. He has never messed in the house, very quiet, docile, and well behaved. He needs no medication. If you can think of anyone that might fit this description please feel free to pass on this info. I really love him and don't love the idea of giving him up, but I think if I can find him a great home that's a true fit I would be doing the best for him. Thanks, Eric 708.705.3958 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-17-00048Rosie (female)
Rosie is one of the best dogs our family has ever owned. She is GREAT with kids, not aggressive with any farm animals (cats, goats, other dogs), she is house trained, very quiet when around the family, she is a real joy to have around. Our problem is that she works our cattle and the neighbors cattle if left out and alone. She is Kenneled up all the time now and it would be better if she could live with a family and be a companion dog like she wants to be.

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-09-00483Brin (female)
Brin is a happy high energy gal. she has settled in here at 'the Ranch' and is enjoying her comfy doggy bed, great toys, inside/outside kennels, daily walks and cuddles, and of course 2 tasty nutritious square meals a day. This beautiful brindle lady is an intelligent companion who will enjoy sharing every activity with you! As an adult, Brin is very active, and will need mental and physical stimulation on a daily basis. She will need to go for regular runs or high energy games of fetch, and will misbehave if she only gets a walk around the block or a romp in the yard as exercise! Brin needs a committed owner to provide training and exercise for her to be a well-behaved dog. Why don't you come out to Rescue Ranch and see if Brin is the paw-fect match for you! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-06-00455Zephyr (male)
Zephyr is a purebred Catahoula Leopard dog and is 18 months old. He is strikingly handsome with two half blue eyes. He is intelligent, sociable, curious, and gentle but he requires more activity than I can give him. He needs a job! Running with cattle or hogs or somewhere where he can feel useful. A daily walk around the block isn't enough to satisfy his physical or mental needs. I am willing to travel outside of California to find him a perfect home with a lot of land, and preferably one with other dogs as he gets along very well with fellow canines. This dog is truly special and he deserves a committed owner.

** FOSTERED IN RIO OSO CALIFORNIA ** Louie is a six year old PUREBRED Catahoula. Six year olds are beyond the puppy stage; settled and in the very prime of their lives. He is black and gorgeous, don't let the hide color take away from what and who he really is. He is very smart, listens and learns quickly. When doing obedience he is very light handed and very willing to please you. Loves to be active and very house broken. He is a pleasure to work with and be with. Foster Mom believes Louie would make a wonderful "COMPANION DOG"; (not a service dog) a dog that would be sensitive to special needs. He is so loyal and sensitive and wants to be with his people he cares for. Will do very well with a couple with no kids and active. No problem with farm animals. Not sure about cats and small dogs. Louie is dominant so he needs to have a very moderately friendly fun loving female as a companion. Not a timid one and definitely not good with other male dogs. He would be best as an only dog or with one dog rather than a large pack. We are saying no children please. He is loving and wonderful and the foster family really really like him. LONG DISTANCE ADOPTION POSSIBLE, TRANSPORT FEES AND POSSIBILITIES CAN BE DISCUSSED If you are interested in Louie please email CatahoulaConnection@gmail.com for an adopt application. No one is obligated by filling it out, but it is a good start to get acquainted. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-09-11-00515Chewy (male)
Chewy Available for Adoption - No Fees - Great Dog 5 yr He is very sweet - around 70lbs, and a Catahoula/Pit mix (up to date with all shots) Chewy is a very social and friendly. He has been with our family for the last 2 years, and before that, he was with my brother-in-law since he was a puppy. He is great with babies, as you can see in the photos. Our son, who is currently 1.5yrs old, absolutely loves him and it will be very sad for us when he goes. He does get nervous around kids who are older. Because we don't know all the facts about his earliest years, it might be best to place him in a family without kids. He has a torn ACL in one of his back legs, which makes it difficult for him to run too hard or too far, but otherwise, is house trained and has received some formal training in the past. The Lake Tahoe Humane Society has agreed to help subsidize ACL surgery in the case of adoption. Please let us know if there are other questions or would like to meet Chewy. We are looking for a good home for our boy. All best, Julia and Josh (Less)

Here is one great hound! He's a happy and healthy 5yr old male looking for a lifelong home. He is neutered, current on his shots and knows a few simple commands. Some of his favorite things include running on the beach, sniffing, taking naps in the sunshine and being close to his people. He is a good running buddy and companion. He is calm and patient with children. He loves playing with puppy pals at the park and beach but can get nervous when in a new home with other dogs. Given time he can warm up a bit though. In his few experiences with cats he's discovered they are fun to chase. The same goes for squirrels. At the park he likes to howl and let everyone know he's a hound but he is gentle and friendly. He is looking for loving people who want to give him lots of exercise and attention. He really is one of a kind! (Less)

Hello my name is Barnabas and I am 1 1/2 year old puppy. I am a Pit - Coonhound Tricolor mystery mix from the Texas Bayou! I am sweet, smart and beautiful. I love to cuddle and go for long walks. I am potty trained, crate trained and I have all of my shots. I know all of my basic commands: sit, wait, lay, let's go, come, etc. I need to be taken for a good walk/ jog most days. I love to run, hike and play at the dog beach but I also love to just be lazy and flop down at the feet of someone who loves me. I like to bounce around and play with other dogs at the dog park. I also love to swim and I am determined to save my owner from the water if it seems to me he/she is in trouble. I am good with kids and adults. I am very obedient on leash . Please contact my foster parents if you could love me and bring me into your family. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-21-00095Nelly (female)
Meet Nelly. She has quite an amazing rescue story. Nelly and her two older puppies were living in the desert under a storage compartment. They had no one but a good Samaritan who would come and feed them a few times a week. She was soon discovered to be pregnant again and HOPE FOR PAWS got the call to please come and try to catch these three dogs. Turns out it didn't take much effort to catch them. They practically ran into the arms of the rescuers and were so grateful. It also turns out Nelly had just delivered her litter of pups under the storage compartment... 9 new babies. The entire group of 12 was brought in for vet checks and then the whole family were handed over to HOPE RANCH for the care and love they so very deserve. Nelly is extremely sweet and loving. She loves people. She craves attention but isn't demanding or bossy about asking for it. She's not pushy or too playful, but she's not too calm or mellow. She's just right. She gets along wonderfully with all other dogs. Also great with horses and children. She would make a great new addition to the family on a ranch or in a regular home. She is approximately 2-3 years old and is a Catahoula mix. Fully vaccinated, spayed, and house trained. For more info about Nelly, please call or text Lisa: 949-244-3267 (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in California
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
