Please read entire bio before contacting rescue. Courtesy listing! Please contact Janet Cook of the Angel's Heart Dog Rescue at: and not the rescue connected to this page! The preferred method of contact is by way of e-mail. Make sure you check your spam folder for an e-mail reply from the rescue. SEE VIDEO ALSO ON THIS PAGE! Wesley is a three-year-old, 35 lb., Beagle mix rescued from the Devore Animal Shelter. Having a Boxer look, Wesley is very serious looking in photos, but he is a warm, endearing dog, and is much cuter in person. Wesley is the color Merle, which is an uncommon color, and only ... (Read More)certain breeds carry that color gene. This is one reason I believe he may be mixed with Catahoula Leopard Hound. But I do think he may also be mixed with Boxer. Wesley is a totally unique looking dog and definitely one of a kind. Personally, I find his coat color pattern to be striking. Wesley is obedient, calm, and well-behaved. He is generally a mellow dog with some excitable moments, for example, when it is time to eat, when I come home, or it is time to go outside with the pack for recreation time. Otherwise, Wesley is quite content to just be lazy and chilling with you, lying on a pet bed nearby if there is nothing much going on. He is a very quiet dog and most of the time I am unaware of him being here most of the time. Sometimes, he alert barks. Wesley does amazingly well in his crate. It is never a problem when I have to leave, and he sleeps quietly in an appropriate-sized wire crate at night without making a peep. Wesley is also quite potty-trained; he has never had an accident in my house, nor has he ever lifted his leg inside the house to mark his territory. He is great with all dogs, big and small and never acts in a jealous or competitive manner. He enjoys recreation time, but so far, he has only shown a minimally playful side. He is starting to enjoy toys and chasing and I have seen him start to play upon another dog's invitation; it just did not last too long. We have not tested him around kids, but I feel that he would be fine with kids. We have no information about how Wesley is with cats. Wesley is friendly, loving and affectionate, and good-natured. He does jump up on me if he is happy to see me; he just wants to tell me how much he loves me. If he gets too excited, I just tell him to sit, and I lower myself to him so that he can give me a few licks and kisses. I noticed when I took him to the vet he pulled on the leash. So I tested him with a prong collar to prevent him from pulling and he did not pull. He walks OK on the leash but is somewhat non-directional. I feel that he will excel with practice. Wesley is a dog that I fell in love easily with because he is such an easy dog to have here at the rescue. All adopted dogs MUST BE primarily indoor dogs with outdoor access for play and potty. They cannot be excluded to the outdoors away from the people, and all dogs must sleep inside the house. Wesley can be placed in a home with almost any dog - another dog in the home is always nice, whereby the two dogs can keep each other company when folks are away from home, but another dog is not necessarily a requirement, as long as Wesley does not have to be alone much of the time. In that case, it is nice when people have a two-dog household. Wesley is a great dog who found himself stray and lost and in the shelter. He is a keeper in my book! Wesley is neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in Wesley, please contact Angel's Heart Dog Rescue at: The phone number to the rescue is: 626-340-9316. There is no need to phone the rescue until you have first submitted an interest via e-mail.     Say 'hi' to Ted... quietly, he nervous! Ted has been here a while now, but oh, the progress! Looking normal much of the time now. Follows you everywhere off leash. Routine oriented. He's blowing me away. Longest I have ever had a foster, but the things he's taught me are invaluable! He's about 2, Queensland / Catahoula combo. Beautiful guy, one blue eye. Ted came here with his sister/mother, who knows, Tessa from the small Orange Cove Shelter, in July 2014. Sometimes I wish I knew a dog's story. How could they be SO shut down?! Ted was one of those dogs. He's fearful and under socialized. Been working with him, and experience has proven ... (Read More)that they are all reachable. The kind of progress I'm grateful for, he now instigates play with dogs, loves sleeping on a dog bed inside and knows how to navigate the dog door, and is housebroken. He's not terrified of me anymore! Eats grass on walks... walks on a leash. I can pet him... I'm tellin' ya, it's the little things that are enormous with some of these guys! Now when we walk, Ted is so close he bumps into the back of my legs, and I feel his breath on the back of my hand... Ted just needs a special adopter, one who might understand Ted is special. He could just be left alone to exist, but I would love to see him with someone that would touch him every day, take him on walks, expose him to things. This is when I've seen the most improvements. Exposure to everything! Immersion. Was a huge deal to even force him to sleep in a dog bed next to me! Once he did for a few days, he expected it! Routine is key! Dogs are incredible, you can reach them through routine. Still working and he has all the time he needs... Photos updated: To download an application to meet Ted: or email: (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in California
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
