Rescue Me ID: 17-11-12-00026Sage (female)

Catahoula    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed

Gorgeous Catahoula Leopard Puppy! 'Great with kids & adults. Food / bone/ toy aggression with other dogs, otherwise sweet puppy. Housebroken. Intelligent. She was a rescue from a kill shelter, but would be a great dog once trained more. She learned 'sit' after one lesson. She doesn't get along with my dachshund, sadly, and would be best as the only dog in the family. She gets separation anxiety and can be destructive I was told, but we haven't seen this side of her.

Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Update: I am sad to report Ruben has passed away he spent his entire life in the rescue. He was a wonderful and sweet dog who just wanted love, it has been hard for gizmo because he's never been without his brother he's never known life without his brother so my wish is that he finds a home before Christmas so he has the chance to have the life he and his brother both deserved. Hi everyone our names are gizmo and Ruben we are two extremely bonded brothers who have been in the rescue our entire lives, because of our size we have never been able to find a good home. We are very quiet and mellow we are 9 years old and weigh about 100lbs We ... (Read More)love people and children and although we are big we are considerate of other people. We don't jump up on people unless asked to and we love to dance so if you start singing in running around and dancing with us we will dance with you. We don't really give kisses but we love catching you off guard and rolling on you with our heavy bodies we love walks and would love a home with a big yard to run and play in we also loooooove water we could sit in a pool of water all day long if given the opertunity. If your interested in letting us live the rest of our lives in a peaceful loving home please email or text our rescuer and self proclaimed mother and request an application for us. We look forward to meeting you! Rescuers note: Gizmo does have a little fatty tumor above his eye but it's strictly an ugly cosmetic issue I was told it's not cancerous but if the adopter wants it removed I will take him in and have it removed I just don't like putting dogs through unnecessary surgery unless it effects their health.     PETALUMA CALIFORNIA AREA: Interested in this boy that we have taken into our rescue? First step is to fill out our adopt application www.jcldr.com it is under Forms and it is a fillable form. Then we call you and if we all feel he is a good match then the meet and greet. No one is obligated by filling out our app but it is the best way to start. Thank you TEMP FOSTER :: We will take a foster or foster with intent to adopt as temp foster is limited and we would like to evaluate him more but we are so impressed with him. FOSTER MOM'S INPUT: We found Matter as a stray in an unincorporated area in Nicasio, CA. He was very thirsty and hungry, ... (Read More)extremely thin and scared. We do not know where he came from, he was not chipped and no one has claimed him. Matter is the sweetest dog. He is very eager to please and becomes very attached to his family. He is smart and learning very quickly he can sit on demand, even starting to lay down and stay on command. He is potty trained, has not had one accident. He loves his learning time too. He is just a big adorable baby. Matter has not learned all of his manners. He ate the pumpkin bread off the counter, he is learning not to jump up on people in excitement but is not there yet. He may be afraid of large men%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD|one man tried to pet him while I was on a walk and he growled at the man a warning but remember he was a stray with people and dogs on the streets probably not treating him right. He has to learn to trust street strangers. I then saw a woman and she had no problem petting him. He also has separation anxiety and that is normal, clingy because he is having to start all over with new things and people. He is learning the crate and doing better. He has a hard time with other dogs, especially large dogs. He does not appear to have been socialized with other animals. He will growl and bark at other dogs while on walks. He has lunged at other dogs in an defensive way but just seems uncertain. We have only had him a short time. There is more to learn about this nice dog. UPDATE !1/17 We have been Fostering Matter for a about 4 weeks now and have learned a lot more about this sweet dog. When we first had him he growled at a man who approached us on the street and we assumed he did not like men. Since then we have had visitors in our home and both men and women have approached us on the street while walking him (he's so cute people stop us a lot) and we have not had any other occasions of him growling and anyone. We also thought Matter would not do well with other dogs as you can see below he is fine with other dogs and we now have him enrolled in a doggy social program a few days a week to help him with social behavior with other dogs and of course have fun too. Matter is a goofy, sweet puppy'| who loves to sit in your lap and be close with his family. He is a real cuddle bug and forgets he is not a lap dog. We have found he also likes to go on car rides. He sits in the back of the car chews his bone and looks at the cows out the window. We have a cat and have held the cat so that he can smell her and he was not at all aggressive'|he was actually a little apprehensive with the cat. The cat was not as apprehensive so we have kept them apart. (Less)

FIRST GOOD STEP: Fill out out our adoption app on line under forms, no one is obligated but it is the best start. We want a match and it saves time and questions. Then we contact by phone. Go to www.jcldr.com to do the on line application FROM FOSTER MOM: I first noticed Lucy running as a stray through farms in our rural neighborhood. A few days later my daughter drove to her to offer food. Lucy crawled into her arms and into her car. I took Lucy in and fed her back to health. A few weeks later I realized she was pregnant. She had 9 beautifully marked healthy puppies. The pups spent the first month of their lives with their mom ... (Read More)indoors in my laundry room because it was winter. Both mom and pups were given a lot of attention and affection. I was able to place the pups through a local rescue group by acting as their foster. Lucy joined my family of four other dogs. She weighs about 73 pounds and is about 2 years old. Lucy is a very affectionate, loving dog. She will lean against my legs, wants hugs and rubs. She is very friendly with all people including my 3 year old granddaughter. When her puppies were small, I would put a clean towel down beside her for my granddaughter so that she could visit with Lucy and the babies. Lucy was quite content with this attention and allowed her puppies to be cuddled. Lucy has been around groups of 20 people at outdoor parties and was a sweet girl. Many visitors came to view her puppies and she was always friendly. She has been well behaved at vet visits, has been a friendly, happy girl to all. She also successfully played and socialized with two shelter pit bulls at our local bully rescue as a dog aggression test and showed no aggression towards them. : Lucy has had two serious dog fights with my elderly female that started snapping at her puppies when they were 12-14 weeks old. Veterinary care was needed although the older dog fully recovered. I have rotated my dogs and kept Lucy separate from my other dogs since these fights, although she touches noses through gates in a friendly manner. One of my other dogs is a very large male who does not usually start fights, but will fight when challenged. Due to my large number of dogs and the risk of a fight with my large male, I have made the decision to seek rehoming for Lucy. I am very fond of her. She does stay quite calm in my laundry room about 5 hours each evening. This room is small and serves a similar purpose as a crate. Lucy has been ok with my cats although exposure has been minimal.     SENTRY IS FOSTERED IN VACAVILLE CAIFORNIA. If you are interested in him the first good step is to go to www.jcldr.com and put in an application on line. No one is obligated but it is a good place to start. Sentry was found wandering the Sacramento country in California. Good samaritans tried to catch him but obviously he was scared by that attempt and so they live trapped him. He was kind and sweet and glad to have nice humans handling him and rode well in their car to safety. We were contacted and had a foster spot open for him. Foster Mom has cats and he does show interest in them but he calls off. He cannot be trusted unsupervised with ... (Read More)Cats. He is a loving dog that really wants to please but still a bit unsure of himself as a lot has happened to him. We did get him adopted out, but the the senior dog would not play with him and he needs a play buddy that is easy going and not shy nor uncertain. He did go to doggie day camp and played with both male and females his size, but has not been tested on little dogs and we hesitate to place him with little dogs. He is a little leash reactive sometimes but it again is because he is contained on leash and feels vulnerable. This can be worked with and we will help you with that once he settles into a home and gets secure. We do behavior issues.. He does not need a trainer or behaviorist. We know the breed and what to do with these issues. He really is a good dog and the past adopter loved him but because he needed a friend and they had a vinyl fence and didn't exercise nor did he have enough interaction with them and their dog, he got out and went looking for a buddy next door. Vinyl fences.. are easy for a dog to damage if they want out. He is kennel and crate broke and has never tried to get out. He was bored and new and needed more than they were able to give him. He is young, about 2, 3 or 4 the vet guesses. He wants to be stimulated and part of your ilfe, not left in a yard to his own resources. If you like him please do put in an application and we will start the process and see where it leads for you and Sentry. He isn't a failure.. so far humans have failed him. We want commitment and he wants time to get to know a new family. The other family only had him for four weeks and there were solutions but they did not want to have a dog with his needs. They were used to an older settled dog with minimal needs. He did well with their 10 year old grandson but we are saying no small children. They might overwhelm him. (Less)

WE DO NOT USE NOR SANCTION choke collars. Bell is not quite a senior. We do not consider a dog a senior until they reach 10 years old. She is 9 years old and very healthy and active. Loves hiking and water play and is a great dog. She is loyal and her owners ... (Read More)were very sad to have to give her up. She is good with older children but does has to have slow introductions to other dogs. She is fine with most once she gets to know them but we would really like to see her the only dog. She would be a great companion dog for someone that loves to give attention over her. She needs that. She is missing her family. Seniors have so much to offer.. all the puppy silliness and struggling over with. She will bring someone some good comfort and fun. She has some years left and we would love to see someone wanting this dog. To not want her would be a real shame. Please give Bell a new chance to spend her last years in comfort and with a friend to share her life with. She deserves this and I have a feeling whoever gets her will feel rich indeed to have had time with her. Spayed, Up to date on Vaccs, HW negative. PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in California
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
