THE FOLLOWING WAS WRITTEN by Pink's former Owner that fell on hard times. Pink was abused by a household member and had her leg broken and was lucky she was not killed, Vet says she has healed well. She and her owner had to find a way to live on their own and Pink had to be re-homed for it to happen. We are proud that we were chosen to help Pink find her forever home. We want commitment for the rest of her life. (Born 9/29/14) Pink is my pretty lady, she always has been, when people say, 'good girl' to their dogs I've always said 'good lady' because for some reason Pink is a lady, not a girl lol. But as much of a lady that Pink is she ... (Read More)loves to be outside and loves to play and does not mind getting dirty. At home she enjoys running around in the tall grass, hopping like a little bunny, which I found out that Catahoulas do after meeting another one. Pink also loves to play fetch with tennis balls and sticks which she then loves to chew but care has to be taken with chewing things like this. There are better things to chew. When she is done playing and gets tired she'll go ahead and lay in the mud or roll around in the dirt so that Mommy will have to give her another bath. lol She is full of fun. Pink always wakes up with a smile and she's ready to go the moment she wakes you up. She is an early riser (well for me at least) usually around 6 or 7am. We always start the day by getting fed and she's knows to sit and wait for her food, then I tell her shake, lay down, and give mommy love before she can 'go get' her food. Pink always follows me around the house in the morning and while I'm getting ready for work her favorite things to do are to play fetch, usually with ropes or whatever toy she is favoring at the time. But her absolute favorite thing to do in the morning is dance! I like listening to electronic dance music and Pink seems to love it too. Once the music starts she will begin to hop around or jump up on her hind legs or pat her front paws on the floor. It's also hands down my favorite part of the day with her, dancing around with her getting ready for our day. She also knows what kind of music she doesn't like, if I turn on a song that she doesn't like she will bark at the speaker until I change it to another song. Pink is crate trained. When I get home from work Pink and I like taking a 2 - 3 mile walk/jog in Lincoln. Pink has her good days and bad days on the leash. Most days she starts off pulling but once we get a groove she loosens up and doesn't pull for her walk. Pinks knows that before crossing a street she must sit and wait for Mommy's lead. Pink also knows not to let other people on her walks distract her. There are times she gets distracted with other dogs though. At night Pink will still want to play fetch and run around the house but she eventually calms down and cuddles up in the living room while I watch TV. She is still a fun loving puppy for sure. Pink recently has become comfortable sleeping in her bed in my room, but that has only been for a few months. Otherwise Pink was most comfortable sleeping in her crate, closed, in the living room. Other than her day to day life Pink loves going on long walks with her best doggie friend Rue the german shepard and being chased by other dogs at the dog park. Pink also enjoys hikes and likes to be up high so she can look down to how far she has hiked up. She loves car rides and often would rather take a car ride than a walk. Her favorite toys are balls and anything she can play tug of war with. Pink is always bringing me a rope so we can play tug of war. Before her brother left she loved playing tug of war with him too. Though Pink is not much of a cuddler she loves being petted and given lots of attention and love! She loves kisses and belly rubs. Pink is waiting for a home again that really give her a lot of love and attention and guidance. (Less)

**TOBY IS FOSTERED IN FRESNO CALIFORNIA** Toby's story Toby's journey started in Martinez, California when he became part of our 'family' viz-a-vie my brother when he was only 8 weeks old. When he was about a year and half, my brother decided he did not want a dog anymore and was going to leave him on the street and we immediately offered to take him in. We knew him from brief visits and he was a wonderful dog that simply wanted to chase the ball and squirrels. We had just lost two of our three dogs to old age and diabetes so our sincere hope was that he and our lab would become the best of buds and he would live with us permanently. ... (Read More)Unfortunately, after 6 months, although he and our lab really are 2 peas in a pod, he is too big for our small children (4 and 18 months). He plays absolutely wonderfully with them but when he takes off running or jumps, they are mere ants to him. Luckily, there have been no incidents but as our 18 month has gotten more mobile, our fear has increased. Toby is a gray and black spotted Catahoula, either pure breed or a mix. I do not know. He is an absolute love who could be content all day chasing the ball or squirrels. He loves to chase anything you throw, loves shadows and reflections and is a very happy dog. He loves to be petted and if you rub his tummy, he will talk to you. In fact, if you tell him to talk, he will talk. He is great with other dogs, big and small, and will play until the other dog drops of exhaustion. He is a wonderful protector and very good with kids. The only drawback is he is very big (70 pounds) so his sheer weight over powers the small kids. He could run for days and walks pretty well, although we run him more in our yard than anything else. He listens to commands and will stay when told. The only 'drawbacks' is that he likes to jump, particularly when someone gets home. He has gotten a lot better but if he's excited, jumping is an issue. He also tends to drool after he's been running and does like to bark at birds and squirrels. From a size perspective, he is powerful so small children may be an issue but he is great with them and very protective. Overall, he is simply a love who wants to be loved on and have a place to play (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-01-19-00026Wylie (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Wylie is a very sweet, calm, easy going, 7 year old male, who weighs approximately 55 lbs. He is very social with all people and all dogs. He has been a lovely pet for a young family, but they were just too busy for him. Wylie was living in a home with two children, ages 2 and 4, a Pomeranian dog and two cats, who loved rubbing up against him. When introduced to 2 cats at his foster home, he was fine with them, if they remained still. If they ran, he would run, too, and chase. As with any dog, he just needs a loving home, where his people have the time to interact with him, take him for walks, involve him in their everyday activities, ... (Read More)and give him the mental and physical stimulation that he needs. Wylie is an extremely loving, loyal boy, who wants to please his family. He is NOT a dominant or alpha dog, and looks for your lead and direction. If he understands what you want, he will try to do it. He learns and trains easily, and is up for being a part of any activity you are involved with. Wylie is also housebroken. He loves going for walks on a leash, but needs some running to get enough exercise each day. Wylie loves to run and play with other dogs and with children. He also is big on playing fetch (with a ball or stick), or just going hiking or on an adventure with his person. Before his person had children, and had time for Wylie, one boy adored sitting next to his person on rides in the truck, going out on a boat, and running around a ranch. While Wylie can be playful when outside, when in the house, he is calm and knows how to relax. Wylie has not been a big barker, but he will do so when he is excitedly playing, or in anticipation of a fun activity. After being alone all day, when Wylie's people come home or finally let him inside, he may also bark out of sheer joy. And, if someone is approaching or outside the house, Wylie will also let out a bark to alert you that someone is coming. This dog would do very well in a multiple pet home situation, where he can play and have the companionship of adults, children, dogs and cats. Wylie is a bright boy and if with other dogs, he will learn by their example. We are seeking a new home for Wylie, where he can get the love, attention and activity he craves and deserves. He would do best in a situation where his person, either, works from home, has a ranch/farm, or is retired and wants a companion to share his/her life with Wylie. March Update: We have had a lot of interest in Wylie, but have recently learned that, due to the neglect that he has experienced, he has developed a few personality traits that require him to be - at least in the beginning, until he feels secure and included again - in a home where someone can be with him, or take him along, throughout most of the day. If left alone outside, after several minutes, he will decide he has been abandoned and will seek ways to leave his property in search of playmates, and something to do. If left alone, he will jump a fence or dig out under it. He does NOT like being in a crate, especially if left alone in one. Wylie would NOT do well in an apartment situation or one where he is left alone for hours during the work week. Wylie is a wonderful boy who is just a love. He just needs people who have the time, patience, and commitment to help him to realize that everything he craves and seeks can be found at home. We feel sure that once he learns that he is a fully included part of a family, he will stop trying to wander off in search of company and entertainment. (Less)

AN ADOPT APPLICATION MAY BE OBTAINED BY EMAILING jj4@midrivers.com NO ONE IS OBLIGATED BY FILLING OUT AN APPLICATION BUT IT IS A GOOD FIRST STEP TO FINDING OUT IF THIS DOG IS A MATCH FOR YOU AND YOURS. * HIS BIO from his foster Mom ** ** FOSTERED IN RIO OSO CALIFORNIA ** Louie is a six year old PUREBRED Catahoula. He is very smart, listens and learns quickly. When doing obedience he ... (Read More)is very light handed and very willing to please you. Loves to be active and very house broken. He is a pleasure to work with and be with. Foster Mom believes Louie would make a wonderful "COMPANION DOG"; (not a service dog) a dog that would be sensitive to special needs. He is so loyal and sensitive and wants to be with his people he cares for. Will do very well with a couple with no kids and active. No problem with farm animals. Not sure about cats and small dogs. Louie is dominant so he needs to have a very moderately friendly fun loving female as a companion. Not a timid one and definitely not good with other male dogs. He would be best as an only dog or with one dog rather than a large pack. We are saying no children please. He is loving and wonderful and the foster family really really like him. PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in California
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Catahoula
lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Catahoulas are probably descended from the Nordic Wolfhound. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
