This is Penel, I have inherited her from a family member who passed recently and she has been the runt of every pack she has been a part of. She is very affectionate and loving and is a very good listener but gets aggressive and protective around other dogs. She needs to be in a home that can keep her from escaping (a ranch type of venue) where she can chase ground squirrels and is able to be loved. She just learned how to swim this year from my Chessie and loves to be wherever you are.

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

This is Rosie - she was rescued by us as a 6 week old puppy and we have had her ever since. She is 1.5 years old. She is very sweet, endearing, silly, loyal, entertaining, loving and energetic. Her antics and quirky personality constantly makes us laugh! She is leash trained and is a pleasure to walk. She chases a ball and exercises herself by doing so - she retrieves with us each day and is a speed-demon acrobat! She does not do damage to our property if we keep her exercised. She rides well in a car or in the back of a truck. She has never met a cat, but would probably be she around it. She LOVES her people. She is good with kids, but shy ... (Read More)and standoffish with other dogs - eventually she allows them to approach and plays with them. She would play well with a dog her own size, but she'd really be happiest an only dog. Our other dog is small and 8 years old, and she is too much for him. We'd love to find her a home with loving owners. Her ear stands up as in the photo!! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-23-00009Pinkberry (those eyes) (male)

Catahoula    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

If you've never seen a dog named 'Pinkberry' then you'll soon have trouble forgetting this one! This 6 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog has one of those faces that is so expressive, that you'll always know what he's thinking. Most of the time he'll have you ready to laugh out loud, or nod your head in agreement with his unspoken comments! Pinkberry is 'Mr. Personality'. He is a very active high energy dog who loves to play, but he's having a hard time getting used to life with an unpredictable young child in the house (she's just 16 months). He loves the people in this home, but his nerves are very jumpy trying to stay out of the way of ... (Read More)a little girl that adores him. He would love a lot more exercise and time outdoors, but his current home has no yard. He currently likes a walk on the leash about 3 times a day and would probably love a yard where he could spend more time outdoors. He currently has a dog walker who helps out, so he'll need a home where somebody is willing to give him lots of exercise and play with him. He's very friendly with familiar adults, and once you get to know him, you'll wonder how you ever lived without him. He won't mix with other dogs or cats though. Pinkberry is perfectly well behaved in the house, but he's intent on being the only pet in the house. He won't mess up or chew up your house as it's his home too. He's not a biter at all, but he will growl if he feels threatened or surprised. Even if he's been attacked or charged by another dog, Pinkberry has great restraint. He is also crate trained and will go to his crate on command. (His crate will come with him along with food, bowls and bins.) His owners really feel sympathy for him and his constant efforts to adjust to life with a toddler. They feel that this adorable playful dog needs a less stressful home with active adults or a family with kids old enough to play and exercise him, while respecting his space. Oh! Pinkberry is afraid of water! Don't mix him up with a retriever! If his toy falls in the water, he's not going in after it! He'll trip over his own feet trying to avoid getting wet. If you have room in your heart and home for Pinkberry, please fill out our application form here: http://petprosservices.com/adopt/ . There is a $75 adoption/rehoming fee. Call Mark toll free at 888-9-PETS4U if you have any questions. Age of Pet 6 Size/Weight (if Dog) 75 lbs Pet's Color and Coat Type Grey / brindle Spayed/Neutered? Yes Up to date on vaccinations? Yes Does this pet get along with cats? No Does this pet get along with dogs? No Does Your Pet Have Any Health Problems? No Please Describe Your Pet's Personality Very friendly with familiar adults, playful and attention-loving. Perfect in the home-- no chewing, destructive behavior, great manners. He's a reactive dog, and has trouble with dogs that he hasn't been introduced to properly. With dogs that he knows, he's great. What is your home environment like? Pinkberry (Pinky) lives in our townhome, has a dog walker, likes to go to parks, but does best on leash at parks. He loves walks-- goes around our neighborhood 3 times a day. Please Tell Us A Little About Your Family: My wife and I have a 16 month old daughter. We've been married 3 years, and have lived in the Bay Area for the past 6. What are your pet's favorite toys, foods, activities? Foods--- loves rawhide chews. Loves tugging games and stuffed animals. He's not into balls or swimming. If possible, please tell us a funny, cute or heartwarming story about your pet. Pinky doesn't like water. One evening after sunset, I took him to a nearby park that has a creek. Pinky was having a blast running around, and then ran straight towards the water. I looked at my wife, thinking that he'd have to stop, right? But he didn't-- apparently he couldn't see the creek in the twilight, and he just jumped straight in. He was horrified-- it was his first real experience in the water. I had to pull him out and take home a soggy, sad pup. We thought it was hilarious though! For What Reason(s) are you needing to rehome your pet? Pinky was great with our daughter until she started walking. Now, he's having trouble adjusting to her moving around unpredictably. He's started growling at her, and running to his crate to avoid her.We can tell that this isn't a good situation for either of them. Pinky has perfect bite inhibition-- he's never bitten anyone, even when other dogs have charged at (or bitten him) aggressively. But he's a reactive dog, and he seems increasingly uncomfortable around her. My daughter loves dogs, and loves Pinky-- she gets upset when he growls at her. We'd like her experiences with dogs to remain positive, and we want Pinky to be comfortable in his home environment. (Less)

Say 'hi' to Ted... quietly, he's nervous! Ted came here with his sister/mother, who knows, Tessa from the small Orange Cove Shelter. Sometimes you wish you knew a dog's story. How could they be SO messed up?! Ted is one of those dogs. He's fearful and under socialized. Been working with him, and experience has proven that they are all reachable. The kind of progress I'm grateful for, he sniffs other dogs, comes in to sleep on a dog bed of his own volition, housebroken, not terrified of me anymore, eats grass on walks... walks on a leash. I can touch him... I'm tellin' ya, it's the little things that are enormous with some of these guys! ... (Read More) Ted needs a special adopter, one who might understand what Ted is going through. He could just be left alone to exist, but I would love to see him with someone that would touch him every day, take him on walks, expose him to things. This is when I've seen the most improvements. Exposure to everything! Immersion. Was a huge deal to even force him to sleep in a dog bed next to me! Once he did for a few days, he expected it! Routine is key! Dogs are incredible, you can reach them through routine. Still working and he has all the time he needs... He is black and gorgeous, don't let the hide color take away from what and who he really is. He is very smart, listens and learns quickly. When doing obedience he is very light handed and very willing to please you. Loves to be active and very house broken. He is a pleasure to work with and be with. Foster Mom believes Louie would make a wonderful "COMPANION DOG"; (not a service dog) a dog that would be sensitive to special needs. He is so loyal and ... PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in California
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
