Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

****FOSTERED IN CALIFORNIA**** FRISKO is a MIX. He looks like a small 32 pound Catahoula. Even his tail is carried like one, and he is so handsome, but that doesn't mean he is a Catahoula.. we don't know for sure. There is conjecture as to what he is but we don't care what he is, breed isn't important when we aren't sure.. but heart and temperament IS. If you want an exceptional dog that looks like a Catahoula in color and face and tail and eyes and ears, then here you go. He is ONE NICE DOG. He was given a lot of freedom as a pup, no boundaries and he ended up chasing chickens and got some. So he was put in a kill shelter and was an 11th ... (Read More)hour rescue. Owner surrenders in overfull kill shelters are the first to go. The shelter liked him as he was friendly and sweet. He gets along with dogs, and cats unless they run and make a game of it, loves kids and people. He has had some manners put into him. About a year and a half is his age and he is so sweet and deserving of a forever commitment. He rides well in a car but don't stick him outside as a yard dog, he learns how to get out if he wants out. He is smart like a Catahoula and wants to be with a family. He can escape. Supervised in yard is perfect. This dog is really nice. Small enough for small homes and travel but he has a big big heart. SO if you are interested in committing to him as your forever dog.. he is fostered in Vacaville California and you can email for an adopt application jj4@midrivers.com Janeen will email you one. WE LOVE HIS HAPPY SMILE. Hoping for video to come. (Less)

Taken from weanling and raised by a loving homeless family on the streets. Very friendly and social puppy. Good with other dogs, cats and all people. Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bentley turns 1 year on August 1. At approximately 65 lbs he is so friggin' cute you can't help but forgive him all his puppy antics. If you love to hike off leash, this is your boy. He is good with dogs, has zero interest in chasing cats, is crate trained. He is great in the car. His perfect home would be one where someone is an early riser and can give him a morning run or hike or long walk. He's currently living with two Ridgebacks that take turns trying to tire him out. He's not a digger or barker - just a puppy. We think he's a hound mix (Catahoula?). Currently fostered in Los Angeles.

Astro was in rough shape when we rescued him from Stockton, CA Animal Services, but two months later, he is healed and ready for a home of his own. He was malnourished and had demodex--non-contagious and completely treatable-- but has just about completed treatment. He is now a healthy, happy dog. He is house-trained and crate-trained. He has a real herding dog temperament and his favorite thing in the world is to play fetch with his squeaky Kong toy. Once back in the house, Astro loves to snuggle. Because of his energy level, he would do best in a home where the kids are old enough to play fetch and provide some of the exercise and activity ... (Read More)Astro needs! (Less)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Submissive
Health: Spayed, Deaf

**FOSTERED IN CA** ZOEY IS DEAF! BUT WHAT A LOVEY 7 YEAR OLD SHE IS. She has gotten caught in dire family circumstances where partners split and health and jobs made it impossible for family to keep her. She is staying with a temp foster and she must find a new home. 7 years old is in her prime. She is NOT a senior. She is full of vim and vigor. She is full of personality and willingness to please. She hikes and stays near her owner, she does not destroy anything when left in the house. She knows signs, she is good with older children. She is NOT good with other dogs and this is often the case with deaf dogs.. dogs misread them and they ... (Read More)misread others and deaf dogs are careful as they compensate for their handicap. Now do not tell her she is handicapped. She does not realize it. She loves to play ball and she would make a good running companion on leash. This girl is NICE.. one of the nicest special needs we have had. ONE OF MANY WE HAVE HAD THAT IS SO NICE. She needs a commitment and forever please. There is more I can share with you and hoping for videos to come soon. Please contact me if you want to help Zoey. She is healthy, spayed and up to date on vaccs. She wants to belong again as she misses her family. They had her since she was a pup. She weighs about 40 pounds so that is a nice size and usually dogs that size have more years to share than a much larger framed dog.. but she will give you what she has and you won't be sorry. Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Say 'hi' to Ted... quietly, he's nervous! Ted came here with his sister/mother, who knows, Tessa from the small Orange Cove Shelter. Sometimes you wish you knew a dog's story. How could they be SO messed up?! Ted is one of those dogs. He's fearful and under socialized. Been working with him, and experience has proven that they are all reachable. The kind of progress I'm grateful for, he sniffs other dogs, comes in to sleep on a dog bed of his own volition, housebroken, not terrified of me anymore, eats grass on walks... walks on a leash. I can touch him... I'm tellin' ya, it's the little things that are enormous with some of these guys! ... (Read More) Ted needs a special adopter, one who might understand what Ted is going through. He could just be left alone to exist, but I would love to see him with someone that would touch him every day, take him on walks, expose him to things. This is when I've seen the most improvements. Exposure to everything! Immersion. Was a huge deal to even force him to sleep in a dog bed next to me! Once he did for a few days, he expected it! Routine is key! Dogs are incredible, you can reach them through routine. Still working and he has all the time he needs...     ** FOSTERED IN RIO OSO CALIFORNIA ** Louie is a six year old PUREBRED Catahoula. Six year olds are beyond the puppy stage; settled and in the very prime of their lives. He is black and gorgeous, don't let the hide color take away from what and who he really is. He is very smart, listens and learns quickly. When doing obedience he is very light handed and very willing to please you. Loves to be active and very house broken. He is a pleasure to work with and be with. Foster Mom believes Louie would make a wonderful "COMPANION DOG"; (not a service dog) a dog that would be sensitive to special needs. He is so loyal and ... (Read More)sensitive and wants to be with his people he cares for. Will do very well with a couple with no kids and active. No problem with farm animals. Not sure about cats and small dogs. Louie is dominant so he needs to have a very moderately friendly fun loving female as a companion. Not a timid one and definitely not good with other male dogs. He would be best as an only dog or with one dog rather than a large pack. We are saying no children please. He is loving and wonderful and the foster family really really like him. LONG DISTANCE ADOPTION POSSIBLE, TRANSPORT FEES AND POSSIBILITIES CAN BE DISCUSSED If you are interested in Louie please email CatahoulaConnection@gmail.com for an adopt application. No one is obligated by filling it out, but it is a good start to get acquainted. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in California
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Catahoulas are probably descended from the Nordic Wolfhound. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
