We sort of inherited this dog over a year ago. I like him better than any animal I have ever met, however he severely attacked my sister-in-law's leg and is now in Agoura animal shelter as of May 30th. Both dogs were running excitedly through the house at the arrival of company, my sister-in-law put her granddaughter on the other side of child gate to protect her from getting knocked down and Doc attacked as she was stepping over the gate herself. (He may have been possessive of the child with whom he has played in the past) I should have tried to find him a better suited home from the get-go, one where he can run, run, run

FRISKO is a MIX. He looks like a small 32 pound Catahoula. Even his tail is carried like one, but that doesn't mean he is a Catahoula.. we don't know for sure. There is conjecture as to what he is but we don't care what he is, breed isn't important when we aren't sure.. but heart and temperament IS. If you want an exceptional dog that looks like a Catahoula in color and face and tail and eyes and ears, then here you go. He is ONE NICE DOG. He was given a lot of freedom as a pup, no boundaries and he ended up chasing chickens and got some. So he was put in a kill shelter and was an 11th hour rescue. Owner surrenders in an overfull kill ... (Read More)shelters are the first to go. The shelter liked him as he was friendly and sweet. He gets along with dogs, cats unless they run and make a game of it and kids and people. He has had some manners put into him. About a year and a half and he is so sweet and deserving of a forever commitment. He rides well in a car but don't stick him outside as a yard dog, he learns how to get out if he wants out. He is smart like a Catahoula and wants to be with a family. He can excape. Supervised in yard is perfect. This dog is really nice. Small enough for small homes and travel but he has a big big heart. SO if you are interested in commiting to him as your forever dog.. he is fostered in Chula Vista California and you can email for an adopt application and Janeen will email you one. WE LOVE HIS HAPPY SMILE. Hoping for video to come. (Less)

Good with other dogs and cats and all people. Beautiful blue eyes are sad and missing her family that could not care for her and keep her. She also had a hernia and cherry eye but that is behind her now and vet deems her healthy. This puppy is loyal and will make someone a nice fur friend. Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bentley turns 11 months on July 1st. At approximately 60 lbs he is so friggin' cute you can't help but forgive him all his puppy antics. If you love to hike off leash, this is your boy. He is great with all dogs, has zero interest in chasing cats, is crate trained yet can be left uncrated. He only chews the furniture while you're watching. He is currently half way through his puppy obedience class and is a star pupil. He is unbelievably great in the car but not particular fond of Brazilian music. He only tolerates it because his foster dad plays it all the time. His perfect home would be one where someone is an early riser and can ... (Read More)give him a morning run or hike or long walk. He's currently living with two Ridgebacks that take turns trying to tire him out. He's not a digger, barker or jumper - just a puppy. We think he's a lab/hound mix (Catahoula?).     Astro was in rough shape when we rescued him from Stockton, CA Animal Services, but two months later, he is healed and ready for a home of his own. He was malnourished and had demodex--non-contagious and completely treatable-- but has just about completed treatment. He is now a healthy, happy dog. He is house-trained and crate-trained. He has a real herding dog temperament and his favorite thing in the world is to play fetch with his squeaky Kong toy. Once back in the house, Astro loves to snuggle. Because of his energy level, he would do best in a home where the kids are old enough to play fetch and provide some of the exercise and activity ... (Read More)Astro needs! (Less)

ZOEY IS DEAF! BUT WHAT A LOVEY 7 YEAR OLD SHE IS. She has gotten caught in dire family circumstances where partners split and health and jobs made it impossible for family to keep her. She is staying with a temp foster and she must find a new home. 7 years old is in her prime. She is NOT a senior. She is full of vim and vigor. She is full of personality and willingness to please. She hikes and stays near her owner, she does not destroy anything when left in the house. She knows signs, she is good with older children. She is NOT good with other dogs and this is often the case with deaf dogs.. dogs misread them and they misread others and deaf ... (Read More)dogs are careful as they compensate for their handicap. Now do not tell her she is handicapped. She does not realize it. She loves to play ball and she would make a good running companion on leash. This girl is NICE.. one of the nicest special needs we have had. ONE OF MANY WE HAVE HAD THAT IS SO NICE. She needs a commitment and forever please. There is more I can share with you and hoping for videos to come soon. Please contact me if you want to help Zoey. She is healthy, spayed and up to date on vaccs. She wants to belong again as she misses her family. They had her since she was a pup. She weighs about 40 pounds so that is a nice size and usually dogs that size have more years to share than a much larger framed dog.. but she will give you what she has and you won't be sorry.     Say 'hi' to Ted... quietly, he's nervous! Ted came here with his sister/mother, who knows, Tessa from the small Orange Cove Shelter. Sometimes you wish you knew a dog's story. How could they be SO messed up?! Ted is one of those dogs. He's fearful and under socialized. Been working with him, and experience has proven that they are all reachable. The kind of progress I'm grateful for, he sniffs other dogs, comes in to sleep on a dog bed of his own volition, housebroken, not terrified of me anymore, eats grass on walks... walks on a leash. I can touch him... I'm tellin' ya, it's the little things that are enormous with some of these guys! ... (Read More) Ted needs a special adopter, one who might understand what Ted is going through. He could just be left alone to exist, but I would love to see him with someone that would touch him every day, take him on walks, expose him to things. This is when I've seen the most improvements. Exposure to everything! Immersion. Was a huge deal to even force him to sleep in a dog bed next to me! Once he did for a few days, he expected it! Routine is key! Dogs are incredible, you can reach them through routine. Still working and he has all the time he needs... Interested in talking about Ted? PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in California
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Catahoulas are probably descended from the Nordic Wolfhound. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
