** FOSTERED IN RIO OSO CALIFORNIA ** Louie is a six year old PUREBRED Catahoula. Six year olds are beyond the puppy stage; settled and in the very prime of their lives. He is black and gorgeous, don't let the hide color take away from what and who he really is. He is very smart, listens and learns quickly. When doing obedience he is very light handed and very willing to please you. Loves to be active and very house broken. He is a pleasure to work with and be with. Foster Mom believes Louie would make a wonderful "COMPANION DOG"; (not a service dog) a dog that would be sensitive to special needs. He is so loyal and ... (Read More)sensitive and wants to be with his people he cares for. Will do very well with a couple with no kids and active. No problem with farm animals. Not sure about cats and small dogs. Louie is dominant so he needs to have a very moderately friendly fun loving female as a companion. Not a timid one and definitely not good with other male dogs. He would be best as an only dog or with one dog rather than a large pack. We are saying no children please. He is loving and wonderful and the foster family really really like him. LONG DISTANCE ADOPTION POSSIBLE, TRANSPORT FEES AND POSSIBILITIES CAN BE DISCUSSED If you are interested in Louie please email for an adopt application. No one is obligated by filling it out, but it is a good start to get acquainted. (Less)

Personality: High Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Brin. I am writing a little bit about myself because I am so new here at Rescue Ranch the staff and volunteers haven't really had a chance to get to know me. I think October 13th is my lucky day because that is when I got the chance to come to Rescue Ranch to wait for my forever home. I am settling in here at 'the Ranch' and enjoying my comfy doggy bed, all these great toys, inside/outside kennels, daily walks and cuddles, and of course 2 tasty nutritious square meals a day. Why don't you come out to Rescue Ranch and meet me and see if I am the paw-fect match for you! If I am the pal for you I hope you will wait for me ... (Read More)because I know everyone here will make sure I am spayed and up on all my health exams before you can take me home. But I am well worth the wait! (Less)

Cisco was just another pretty face... (or adorable puppy, no doubt). No time for an active herding dog says the owner... So their loss, some lucky adopter's gain. He is a bit shy but good with other dogs. Not so much with cats at this time. Wants to chase them but that could just be the pup in him and lack of exercise. He is kept mainly in a small fenced yard with an older German shepherd. His owners are too busy to give him adequate attention or time to work off that cattle dog energy. He is house broken. And wants to please and knows simple commands. He's micro-chipped and comes with 45 days of health insurance. Plus current ... (Read More)vaccinations. Adoption fee is $200.     Chewy Available for Adoption - No Fees - Great Dog 5 yr He is very sweet - around 70lbs, and a Catahoula/Pit mix (up to date with all shots) Chewy is a very social and friendly. He has been with our family for the last 2 years, and before that, he was with my brother-in-law since he was a puppy. He is great with babies, as you can see in the photos. Our son, who is currently 1.5yrs old, absolutely loves him and it will be very sad for us when he goes. He does get nervous around kids who are older. Because we don't know all the facts about his earliest years, it might be best to place him in a family without kids. He has a torn ACL in ... We are looking for a good home for our boy. All best, Julia and Josh (Less)

Here is one great hound! He's a happy and healthy 5yr old male looking for a lifelong home. He is neutered, current on his shots and knows a few simple commands. Some of his favorite things include running on the beach, sniffing, taking naps in the sunshine and being close to his people. He is a good running buddy and companion. He is calm and patient with children. He loves playing with puppy pals at the park and beach but can get nervous when in a new home with other dogs. Given time he can warm up a bit though. In his few experiences with cats he's discovered they are fun to chase. The same goes for squirrels. At the park he ...     Meet Nelly. She has quite an amazing rescue story. Nelly and her two older puppies were living in the desert under a storage compartment. They had no one but a good Samaritan who would come and feed them a few times a week. She was soon discovered to be pregnant again and HOPE FOR PAWS got the call to please come and try to catch these three dogs. Turns out it didn't take much effort to catch them. They practically ran into the arms of the rescuers and were so grateful. It also turns out Nelly had just delivered her litter of pups under the storage compartment... 9 new babies. The entire group of 12 was brought in for vet checks and ... (Read More)then the whole family were handed over to HOPE RANCH for the care and love they so very deserve. Nelly is extremely sweet and loving. She loves people. She craves attention but isn't demanding or bossy about asking for it. She's not pushy or too playful, but she's not too calm or mellow. She's just right. She gets along wonderfully with all other dogs. Also great with horses and children. She would make a great new addition to the family on a ranch or in a regular home. She is approximately 2-3 years old and is a Catahoula mix. Fully vaccinated, spayed, and house trained. For more info about Nelly, please call or text Lisa: 949-244-3267 (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in California
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Rescue Me! - HeIpingAnimaIs in Need.
lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Catahoulas are probably descended from the Nordic Wolfhound. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs.
