Chewy Available for Adoption - No Fees - Great Dog 5 yr He is very sweet - around 70lbs, and a Catahoula/Pit mix (up to date with all shots) Chewy is a very social and friendly. He has been with our family for the last 2 years, and before that, he was with my brother-in-law since he was a puppy. He is great with babies, as you can see in the photos. Our son, who is currently 1.5yrs old, absolutely loves him and it will be very sad for us when he goes. He does get nervous around kids who are older. Because we don't know all the facts about his earliest years, it might be best to place him in a family without kids. He has a torn ACL in ... (Read More)one of his back legs, which makes it difficult for him to run too hard or too far, but otherwise, is house trained and has received some formal training in the past. The Lake Tahoe Humane Society has agreed to help subsidize ACL surgery in the case of adoption. Please let us know if there are other questions or would like to meet Chewy. We are looking for a good home for our boy. All best, Julia and Josh (Less)

Some of his favorite things include running on the beach, sniffing, taking naps in the sunshine and being close to his people. He is a good running buddy and companion. He is calm and patient with children. He loves playing with puppy pals at the park and beach but can get nervous when in a new home with other dogs. Given time he can warm up a bit though. In his few experiences with cats he's discovered they are fun to chase. The same goes for squirrels. At the park he ...     Hello my name is Barnabas and I am 1 1/2 year old puppy. I am a Pit - Coonhound Tricolor mystery mix from the Texas Bayou! I am sweet, smart and beautiful. I love to cuddle and go for long walks. I am potty trained, crate trained and I have all of my shots. I know all of my basic commands: sit, wait, lay, let's go, come, etc. I need to be taken for a good walk/ jog most days. I love to run, hike and play at the dog beach but I also love to just be lazy and flop down at the feet of someone who loves me. I like to bounce around and play with other dogs at the dog park. I also love to swim and I am determined to save my owner from ... (Read More)the water if it seems to me he/she is in trouble. I am good with kids and adults. I am very obedient on leash . Rescue Me ID: 14-07-21-00567Sutter (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sutter is a true gentleman dog! He is a 7+ yr. old neutered male Catahoula and cattle dog mix. He is about as gentle and mellow a dog as you will ever find. He weighs 59 lbs. and is a low-medium energy dog. Sutter is not a dog that makes a lot of noise or announces himself to the world. He sits quietly, listens for direction, and hopes that someone, sometime, will see what a sweet dog he is. Sutter appears to be completely house trained - and crate trained, walking right into a crate with his hot dog treat. He is very easy to walk on leash. Sutter enjoys exploring in the yard. He has a very soft mouth and uses his tongue rather than his ... (Read More)teeth to take a treat. He gets along well with other dogs. He meets other dogs politely. When first meeting other dogs, if the other dog is energetically in his face, Sutter may grumble, or take a superior position over the dog to get it be less eager or less busy around him. After the introductions, Sutter is relaxed and enjoys the company of the other dog(s). At his short term foster home, he was fine and happy living with the dominant old female, the ball-crazy young male, and the insecure adult male dog. He is currently being fostered with a playful cattle dog, and when hanging out together, the two will lick each other's faces. At his current foster home, Sutter was interested in a bossy cat, who swatted at him several times. He wasn't happy with the cat, but merely barked his displeasure a few times to the aggressive cat - while keeping his distance. Until we rescued Sutter on July 19th, for the past 4 months, he had been living in a cage at the shelter. He was placed on the euthanasia list, and the volunteers, who all loved him, were frantically searching for a rescue to take him. He is a wonderful, easy going, boy, who is just happy to be with you and go for a nice walk. He will make someone a terrific, low maintenance companion. If you are interested in adopting Sutter, please complete our online adoption questionnaire. It provides us with your contact information, tells us a little about your situation and pet experience, and is part of our pre-approval process. You will find it on our website(hittgv.org), under the 'Adopt' tab, near the top of the page. Scroll down the page for the beginning of the form. Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Nelly. She has quite an amazing rescue story. Nelly and her two older puppies were living in the desert under a storage compartment. They had no one but a good Samaritan who would come and feed them a few times a week. She was soon discovered to be pregnant again and HOPE FOR PAWS got the call to please come and try to catch these three dogs. Turns out it didn't take much effort to catch them. They practically ran into the arms of the rescuers and were so grateful. It also turns out Nelly had just delivered her litter of pups under the storage compartment... 9 new babies. The entire group of 12 was brought in for vet checks and ... (Read More)then the whole family were handed over to HOPE RANCH for the care and love they so very deserve. Nelly is extremely sweet and loving. She loves people. She craves attention but isn't demanding or bossy about asking for it. She's not pushy or too playful, but she's not too calm or mellow. She's just right. She gets along wonderfully with all other dogs. Also great with horses and children. She would make a great new addition to the family on a ranch or in a regular home. She is approximately 2-3 years old and is a Catahoula mix. Fully vaccinated, spayed, and house trained. For more info about Nelly, please call or text Lisa: 949-244-3267 (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in California
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Catahoula
lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Catahoulas are probably descended from the Nordic Wolfhound. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
