(This is a courtesy posting. Please email Tylyn at: woofwoof2u2@gmail.com for more information about this dog.) Please help Sissy find a loving home! She is an 8 month old, border collie & catahoula mix, with another rescue, and her story is a very sad one. When she was a small pup, she was sold to a pig hunter. Sissy does not have prey drive and wouldn't hunt pigs. He beat her for not hunting, and was going to shoot her for being 'worthless' to him. Sissy is has a very sweet, mellow personality, she is NOT high energy, and gets along great with other dogs. She is very friendly with women, but understandably afraid of men. Sissy is ...     THIS DOG WAS ON SHOCKING DEVICES, WAS ATTACKED BY OTHER DOGS, REACTED WITH A SMALL CHILD. SHE COULD EASILY HAVE BITTEN THE CHILD BUT ONLY CORRECTED. CHILDREN AND SHOCKING DEVICES MADE HER REACTIVE. WE DO NOT SANCTION THEM. WE HAVE 40 YEARS EXPERIENCE WITH THIS BREED. THIS DOG IS IN DANGER OF EUTHANIZATION AND DESERVES ANOTHER CHANCE. I WILL HELP WITH REHAB. WE DO REQUIRE ADOPT APPLICATIONS TO BE FILLED OUT. WE ARE A 501c3 REPUTABLE RESCUE AND DO A LOT OF REHOMING AND REHAB. THIS IS A NICE GIRL WHO DOES NOT DESERVE TO DIE. BIO FROM OWNER. READ FULL BIO AND RESCUE NOTATIONS. My girl Hula was born on Oct. 21st, 2008. I got her from my Uncle ... (Read More)who has had Catahoula's on his ranch for over 20 years. He uses his dogs to herd, but I have no livestock (DOES NOT NEED A WORKING HOME). I picked Hula up when she was 8 weeks old, and she has been by my side ever since. She is spayed, up to date on all of her shots and has never had any health issues. I absolutely hate to put Hula up for adoption, especially after all of the wonderful memories my wife and I have with her. She is a very loving and social dog, she loves to be with us no matter what we are doing. She's an excellent cuddler and loves to curl up on the couch while you read or watch TV. Hula sleeps at the foot of our bed on an ottoman, but often finds her way onto the bed as we are waking up. Hula loves long runs or walks and enjoys being off leash in the country. She loves splashing at the edge of pools and lakes, but does not swim all that often. She loves riding in the car and does well in the back seat or in the kennel. Hula is fully house trained and responds to sit, stay and shake. She is an excellent guard dog, and never fails to alert you of someone at the door or in the yard.. Hula is incredibly smart and loves solving treat puzzles and playing hide and go seek. She loves to fetch, especially orange rubber balls. 8 months ago my 10-month old daughter was scooting around our living room while my wife was folding laundry in the same area. All of the sudden Hula went after our daughter and scratched up her face and neck pretty good. While there was no permanent damage, it shook my wife and I up immensely. Since that time Hula has been outside from when my daughter wakes until she goes down in the evening. This has been a short term solution as our daughter is close to moving into a 'big girl' bed and will shortly be able to open doors. Our daughter still loves dogs and will stand at the window and say 'Hi Hula'. When Hula was 4 years old she was attacked by a dog at a dog park, there was no damage to Hula but she was incredibly shaken up. Since that time she has been wary of new dogs, and seems to especially take issue with other females. Hula pulls on the leash while walking, especially at the beginning of a walk/run, but then she settles into decent leash manners. Her herding/prey drive is high and she will take off and chase just about anything. (she can hike on leash and she can learn to bike with someone) She is not cat or livestock friendly. In the city I will put a bark collar on her if our neighbors will be entertaining or working outside, as Hula loves barking at anyone close to the house or fence.(SHOCKING DEVICES CAUSE A Lot OF THE ISSUES HULA HAS HERE.. THIS IS WRONG, CAN BE WORKED WITH OTHER WAYS AND TURNED AROUND) Hula is very shaken up by fireworks, gunshots and thunder/lightening. (THANKS TO USE OF SHOCKING DEVICES.Hula is microchipped. Hula is great with lots of exercise and stimulation. She craves attention from her owner whether it be a day at the office, curled up on the couch relaxing or going for a long walk. She is excellent at matching 'mood'- she'll run/hike until your hearts content, but she will also sense when it's time to calm down and relax. Hula is an excellent nap companion and does an excellent job doubling as a heater. Hula has very short fine hair and hardly sheds at all, it is barely noticeable. Hula does not roll in mud or puddles, so cleaning her up during wet weather just means wiping her paws off. (Less)

Say 'hi' to Ted... quietly, he nervous! Ted has been here a while now, but oh, the progress! Looking normal much of the time now. Follows you everywhere off leash. Routine oriented. He's blowing me away. Longest I have ever had a foster, but the things he's taught me are invaluable! He's about 2, Queensland / Catahoula combo. Beautiful guy, one blue eye. Ted came here with his sister/mother, who knows, Tessa from the small Orange Cove Shelter, in July 2014. Sometimes I wish I knew a dog's story. How could they be SO shut down?! Ted was one of those dogs. He's fearful and under socialized. Been working with him, and experience has proven ... (Read More)that they are all reachable. The kind of progress I'm grateful for, he now instigates play with dogs, loves sleeping on a dog bed inside and knows how to navigate the dog door, and is housebroken. He's not terrified of me anymore! Eats grass on walks... walks on a leash. I can pet him... I'm tellin' ya, it's the little things that are enormous with some of these guys! Now when we walk, Ted is so close he bumps into the back of my legs, and I feel his breath on the back of my hand... Ted just needs a special adopter, one who might understand Ted is special. He could just be left alone to exist, but I would love to see him with someone that would touch him every day, take him on walks, expose him to things. This is when I've seen the most improvements. Exposure to everything! Immersion. Was a huge deal to even force him to sleep in a dog bed next to me! Once he did for a few days, he expected it! Routine is key! Dogs are incredible, you can reach them through routine. Still working and he has all the time he needs...     THE FOLLOWING WAS WRITTEN by Pink's former Owner that fell on hard times. Pink was abused by a household member and had her leg broken and was lucky she was not killed, Vet says she has healed well. She and her owner had to find a way to live on their own and Pink had to be re-homed for it to happen. We are proud that we were chosen to help Pink find her forever home. We want commitment for the rest of her life. (Born 9/29/14) Pink is my pretty lady, she always has been, when people say, 'good girl' to their dogs I've always said 'good lady' because for some reason Pink is a lady, not a girl lol. But as much of a lady that Pink is she ... (Read More)loves to be outside and loves to play and does not mind getting dirty. At home she enjoys running around in the tall grass, hopping like a little bunny, which I found out that Catahoulas do after meeting another one. Pink also loves to play fetch with tennis balls and sticks which she then loves to chew but care has to be taken with chewing things like this. There are better things to chew. When she is done playing and gets tired she'll go ahead and lay in the mud or roll around in the dirt so that Mommy will have to give her another bath. lol She is full of fun. Pink always wakes up with a smile and she's ready to go the moment she wakes you up. She is an early riser (well for me at least) usually around 6 or 7am. We always start the day by getting fed and she's knows to sit and wait for her food, then I tell her shake, lay down, and give mommy love before she can 'go get' her food. Pink always follows me around the house in the morning and while I'm getting ready for work her favorite things to do are to play fetch, usually with ropes or whatever toy she is favoring at the time. But her absolute favorite thing to do in the morning is dance! I like listening to electronic dance music and Pink seems to love it too. Once the music starts she will begin to hop around or jump up on her hind legs or pat her front paws on the floor. It's also hands down my favorite part of the day with her, dancing around with her getting ready for our day. She also knows what kind of music she doesn't like, if I turn on a song that she doesn't like she will bark at the speaker until I change it to another song. Pink is crate trained. When I get home from work Pink and I like taking a 2 - 3 mile walk/jog in Lincoln. Pink has her good days and bad days on the leash. Most days she starts off pulling but once we get a groove she loosens up and doesn't pull for her walk. Pinks knows that before crossing a street she must sit and wait for Mommy's lead. Pink also knows not to let other people on her walks distract her. There are times she gets distracted with other dogs though. At night Pink will still want to play fetch and run around the house but she eventually calms down and cuddles up in the living room while I watch TV. She is still a fun loving puppy for sure. Pink recently has become comfortable sleeping in her bed in my room, but that has only been for a few months. Otherwise Pink was most comfortable sleeping in her crate, closed, in the living room. Other than her day to day life Pink loves going on long walks with her best doggie friend Rue the german shepard and being chased by other dogs at the dog park. Pink also enjoys hikes and likes to be up high so she can look down to how far she has hiked up. She loves car rides and often would rather take a car ride than a walk. Her favorite toys are balls and anything she can play tug of war with. Pink is always bringing me a rope so we can play tug of war. Before her brother left she loved playing tug of war with him too. Though Pink is not much of a cuddler she loves being petted and given lots of attention and love! She loves kisses and belly rubs. Pink is waiting for a home again that really give her a lot of love and attention and guidance. (Less)

AN ADOPT APPLICATION MAY BE OBTAINED BY EMAILING jj4@midrivers.com NO ONE IS OBLIGATED BY FILLING OUT AN APPLICATION BUT IT IS A GOOD FIRST STEP TO FINDING OUT IF THIS DOG IS A MATCH FOR YOU AND YOURS. * HIS BIO from his foster Mom ** ** FOSTERED IN RIO OSO CALIFORNIA ** Louie is a six year old PUREBRED Catahoula. He is very smart, listens and learns quickly. When doing obedience he ... (Read More)is very light handed and very willing to please you. Loves to be active and very house broken. He is a pleasure to work with and be with. Foster Mom believes Louie would make a wonderful "COMPANION DOG"; (not a service dog) a dog that would be sensitive to special needs. He is so loyal and sensitive and wants to be with his people he cares for. Will do very well with a couple with no kids and active. No problem with farm animals. Not sure about cats and small dogs. Louie is dominant so he needs to have a very moderately friendly fun loving female as a companion. Not a timid one and definitely not good with other male dogs. He would be best as an only dog or with one dog rather than a large pack. We are saying no children please. He is loving and wonderful and the foster family really really like him. PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in California
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
