Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This wonderful little girl was rescued through Rez Dawg Rescue (www.rezdawgsrescue.org) from a high kill shelter in Gallup, NM. She is around 20-25 lbs, fully vetted (spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and dewormed), and living in foster care. She is doing well with potty training and gets along with other dogs. I think she would prefer a house that does not have children currently but could be good with them one day. She was said to be very shy and timid by shelter staff but once I approached her slowly and gave her 5 minutes to get used to me, she was licking my face, asking for pats and following me everywhere. She has not been seen to be ... (Read More)destructive at all, a great little girl! She is smaller than a Catahoula but bigger than a dachshund, has the Catahoula build (so hopefully less likely to have back problems, can jump like one too) but has a dachshund face. (Less)

Page is very sweet and loves all your time and attention. She gets along great with other dogs but can be possessive of toys/treats(something we're working on). She is never possessive to me but to my other dogs and mostly to my young puppy. This is can be fixed. She is great on a leash but has a little trouble going to the bathroom outside of my yard. She whines when she has to go to the bathroom - that's how you'll know. I don't let her off leash because she is a little unsure and won't come every time you call (another thing that cans till be fixed with training). She is great at tracking, but, given her breed background I'm not ... (Read More)surprised. I would love to see her go to a hunting home but she would make a great family pet as well and could do search an rescue really well. Catahoulas are loyal and great guard dogs. She would come with a collar, leash and medical record. She is up to date on all shots. As for food, since she is only 6 months I feed her canidae all life stages 1c twice a day. She is medium sized dog and shouldn't get much bigger. On a side note, Catahoulsa are very independent dogs that need constant training reinforcement. they are loyal and protective but also strong willed and need to have an owner that is the Alpha/Pack leader all the time, they will test you. They are great with children and will protect their family/pack. For more information look here: www.donabney.com (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Colorado
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs.
