When a Farfel's volunteer first met Ray, she was struck first by her cuteness...how could you not be? Her curious and very affectionate personality (so typical of a happy and well-socialized puppy) became the entertainment of the day...so funny and cute that you just had to periodically hug her. We were all very glad that she wouldn't remember the terrible challenges of her youngest days...Code Red at a dreary shelter. As hope seemed to fade away for Ray, Farfel's got an email that she needed rescue and that her situation was very urgent. Through the love and immediate action of rescuers in Texas, Ray was saved at the very last second. ... (Read More)She's learning so quickly and understanding that the world can be a very positive place. We are so excited for the life that is in store for this little gal! We are searching for the most loving home for this exceptional girl so she learns positive skills resulting in a strong bond with her family. We would also like a home where the family is present...it can be a retired couple or individual who has the energy and patience for a young pup. Or a family with children that choose to include their pet in their daily lives. Since Ray will require training to mold her into a great and bonded adult companion, we feel strongly about puppy socialization classes and later Obedience I to promote good behavior and peaceful relationships with humans and dogs. It's also important that Ray is given mental stimulation and lots of exercise. It's never too early to start teaching leash manners on the incredible trails of Colorado....this will develop Ray into a fit and stable companion. Ray has a baby coat that with great nutrition and periodic baths/brushing will become the gorgeous and cottony-soft coat of an adult Coonhound. We can't identify another breed present in Ray... but can't commit that she's a purebred coonhound. Ray will arrive on transport in Denver on soon. If interested in this fun-loving and very sweet puppy, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Colorado
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
