Rescue Me ID: 17-05-12-00057Cassey (female)

Catahoula    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

She is extremely intelligent, great with other dogs and very gentle with cats. She would do very well with a fenced yard and someone who has time to take her on walks and cuddle with her. No young children please (only because they may not understand the horrors that this dog has experienced and/or how to act towards her as a result). She was originally found tied to a fence, emaciated and all alone. Because she was likely tied up, starved, and abused often throughout the first 2 years of her life, she does not appreciate being dragged or pulled by the neck. This is her main issue. She started e-collar training and also does well with a ... (Read More)harness as an alternative. She is currently in a foster home with other dogs and cats. She is up to date on all shots, spayed and microchipped. She is housebroken, crate trained, and knows basic commands. Please research the breed- Catahoula Leopard Dog and American Leopard Hound. She is likely a purebred. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Delaware
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Delaware if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
