Rescue Me ID: 17-12-10-00190Redford (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Redford came to us after being found in the Redlands area of Dade County where he was most likely dumped. He is a very sweet young dog, just under one year old (Dec 2017). He is funny and sweet and interested in life in general. He appears well house trained, he is a little nervous around large groups of small dogs and cats, but with the right owner he will fit in fine. This is a wonderful dog who deserves a wonderful fresh start with a loving family!

Rescue Me ID: 17-12-08-00014Gumae (goo-may) (female)

Catahoula    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

Gumae (goo-may) is friendly with all animals...other dogs, cats, chickens, goats, pigs, horses, etc. She is good with kids, too. She's a very laid back girl who likes her chew toys. Leash and crate trained. Still working on her potty-training. Gumae will be 1 year old in January and weighs about 30-35 pounds. She has limited sight and hearing. She is afraid of riding in a vehicle. She does not panic or act crazy...she just lays there and shakes. I think she's sensitive to the vibrations because of her hearing and sight impairment. She knows her name and knows 'come' and 'sit'. This little girl has an underbite and her build is a little ... (Read More)awkward... her shoulders are wider than her hips so she has a hard time running... she tends to just jog and never really runs. She has a crook in her tail from where a horse stepped on it when she was a puppy. All of that is how she got the name Gumae. Everyone called her 'Goofy Mae' and ended up putting it together to get 'Gumae' (pronounced goo-may). She LOVES to be petted and hugged and loved on. I believe she would sit in one spot all day if somebody would pet her for that long. Gumae has had her 2nd set of puppy shots and will be brought up to date on her shots as well as her spay prior to being adopted. If you would like to meet this little beauty, please contact the rescue to set up a meet and greet with Gumae. This lovebug needs a special home. (Less)

Catahoula    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Her name is Sidney. She is 4 years old. She is spayed. Her health is excellent. She was completely vetted Friday October 20, 2017 including: wellness, intestinal parasite, heartworm exams; Oral Bordetella, Leptospirosis, Canine Influenza (H3N8 and H3N2), Rabies, DA2PP-3 inoculations. She is currently heartworm negative, but will need a follow up heartworm exam in 6 months due to her previous unknown home status. She is currently taking Sentinel heartworm and intestinal parasite preventative. As to behavior she is: gentle with small children and senior citizens (including wheelchair bound individuals), she is highly active but tries to ... (Read More)consider the other animals around her with whom she is playing to avoid unintentional harm to them; she knows basic manners - sit, stay, with-me, kennel up; and she is receiving continued Patricia McConnell-type instruction. It is believed that Sidney was a hunting dog and, from her fear and willingness to please people behaviors, that she was shock-collar trained. She will be visiting an animal behaviorist-trainer the week after Thanksgiving to assess her behavior more completely. She is highly intelligent and well-bred for hunting rather than conformance (as is the practice of hunters-breeders in my surrounding areas; i.e., GA, LA, AL, FL). She needs to be retired as a pet. She sits on the couch with me at night and sleeps or looks around while I am watching TV, doing needle work, working on my computer, or the like. Please contact me with any interest in this very lovely girl. - 850-459-5448 or Finkey1975@gmail.com The adoption fee of $100.00 will be given as a gift to one of the local animal organizations in the Tallahassee area: TREATS, Inc, of Tallahassee (www.treatsinc.org), Be The Solution (bethesolution.us/), or The Franklin County Humane Society (www.forgottenpets.org/) (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-11-06-00384Ellie (female)

Catahoula    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

Ellie is 8 months old and was kept in a small crate in the garage by her owner. I offered to take her to get her out of that situation, but I cannot keep her. I've tried to post to friends and family but I'm not finding anyone who would like to forever home this lovely. I have children from 2 to 18 in the house and she is great with all of them. I have two GSDs 1y and 3 mo - she's fine and plays with both of them. She's crate trained. So SO lovey. Her owner bought her and for whatever reason decided that wasn't something he wanted to be responsible for - never took her to the vet - she was dewormed by the breeder but that's it. She's ... (Read More)never been to the vet. She doesn't chew or seem to have any stress tics from being in a crate for so long... She DOES however, eat and drink until she makes herself sick. Its like she feels that she needs to 'get it all - quick'. So she just needs her food/drink monitored. She has a tale that almost looks like it's been docked but it wasn't, she was born that way. She's a good girl - she needs a home that has someone home a lot. She should NOT be in the kennel/crate for an 8-9 hour work day and then back in at night. She's great in the car and would be a perfect dog for someone looking for a companion. She honestly in a lover and will always stop for some lovins. She's a great dog, she really is. I'm sorry about the large adoption fee, but I do NOT want her to go to a home for nefarious reasons and I need to know she's wanted as a pet companion or hunting companion. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Florida
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
