Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Approximately 6 months old, you won't want this dog if you don't want to stand out! He snares attention everywhere he goes, but who could resist those striking good looks? He's a small guy, about 25lbs and we don't expect him to get much bigger. Perhaps an Australian shepherd and terrier mix? Despite his charm and handsomeness, this puppy has has a rough start. He and two others were found in an abandoned trailer when they were taken in to animal control. From they're he spent three months in the shelter. When we first pulled him, he was so scared. If you touched him he'd flatten to the ground and stay there until the attention had ... (Read More)passed. But within 3 days, this little cutie did a 180. He's now a bouncy, playful, happy little pup with so much love to give, but no one to give it to. He loves go cuddle and entertain. Very sweet and respectful, he gets along great with dogs and people alike. Would make a fantastic family or single person dog. He's never known what it feels like to be loved and taken care of. Won't you take him home? (Less)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Brantley is an 81 pound Catahoula / Great Dane Mix. His foster mom calls him the 'Gentle Giant'. He lives with a host of small dogs, cats and kittens. He is very gentle with the cats and does play nicely with them. This is probably because he has had cat companions since he was a little puppy. He is also good with children. He is house trained, but could use some brushing up on his leash skills as he doesn't like to go anywhere if he gets scared. He is probably through growing at nearly a year old, but may get a little bigger. This boy needs a little space and a kind heart to take him in. If you are interested in adopting Brantley, ... Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Eli Update! Oh my gosh my name is Eli and I am a bright eyed nubby tailed Catahoula/Heeler mix and you want me! I know someone does cause I am rather cool, I am handsome and fun and just the most awesomest boy ever! Sometimes my foster mom thinks I have two gears'| full blast and stop! She likes me though and my foster dad loves me. He says I am just the prettiest thing.! I am still working on my house manners cause I am used to being outside. But the coolest thing I have discovered about being indoors is air conditioning. And there are treats in here'| and my foster mom and dad have these things called rabbits and guinea pigs. I like ... (Read More)to watch them'| a lot! That is why mom says I would be best in a home without them things'| or chickens. But who has chickens inside a house? Hehehe. Seriously mom thinks that I would be okay on a farm as long as I was kept segregated from chickens and small critters. She says I have a high prey drive but that shouldn't count against me. I am a super sweet doggie. I play with dogs of all shapes and sizes male or female. I am curious about cats and seem to do okay with moms. He is a pretty cool cat though! And I love kids! I love kids and played my heart out with my foster moms nephew while he was visiting. I would LOVE boy or girl of my own to run and play with. But not too little cause I am a strong and powerful little thing! I am working on leash manners really hard. Mom and dad say I am a good student and they work with positive reinforcement and treats to learn my commands and such. But I am a slow learner I guess cause it is taking me awhile, I just have so much energy that I get distracted! It's not fair that there are so many things going on around me but mom and dad love me anyway and that is all that matters. Boy oh boy I seriously want a fenced in backyard so I can run and play and if there is a pool I would swim 100 miles a day! I am short and stout and weigh about 60 pounds. Mom says I am a pretty fawn coloring with white and freckled paws. I love to smile and mom says I smirk a lot. I am neutered, I don't want to talk about that though'| and fully vaccinated. Please give me a chance and meet me. I promise you will love me! I love me! I am awesome! Adoption Fee: $200 - fully vetted, neutered, etc (Less)

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Thor is the god of Thunder! He is a diamond in the rough we pulled from a North Georgia shelter at the last minute. Thor through no fault of his own was an owner surrender and was miserable in confinement. He is an active dog and really needs a family with a fenced in backyard. He is super friendly and playful and gets along with all other dogs. Small and large, doesn't mind cats and ignore our small in home critters. Thor is a herding working dog and needs someone that will give him something to do. Whether that is playin ball, Frisbee, working on a farm, running or hiking partner, etc. Someone who is not a beginner dog owner would be the ... (Read More)ideal adopter for Thor. Thor is completely vetted, altered, and micro chipped. He is simply stunning and looking for someone to give him the time and attention he not only needs but deserves. Catahoula's are a very loyal and smart breed and he will be your best friend forever. Rescue Me ID: 14-08-04-00471Beanie (female)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Beanie will soon achieve the sad distinction of having lived at the CSHS shelter for 3 years come 18 Oct 2014. Though we can celebrate that Beanie has been in a safe environment during this time, 3 years without a home is not what we desire for any of our residents. Forever happiness seems to always be just out of reach for Beanie. Many inquiries in response to extensive publicity, but the few that come to visit, decide against her. Beanie has grown up in the shelter from the age of 16 weeks and has curled up each night on a raised cot in a world of concrete and chain link. She is the longest resident of the shelter having been passed ... (Read More)over during the searches by thousands of visitors. Despite her beautiful brindle coat and pretty white feet, no one ever looks at Beanie for long. Her soft brown eyes hold the knowledge that this may be the only life she will ever have. Though she shows great love for the volunteers and staff that she knows and trusts, this is not an automatic response. Most dogs are unaffected by living in a kennel building either due to personality or quick adoptions but there are others which struggle. The kennel environment can take a dog without issues and create undesirable behaviors due to the confinement, the extreme noise level and the limited amount of people/dog interaction. If adoption were based solely on appearance, Beanie may have left the shelter long ago. But kennel life over time has challenged Beanie's ability to cope and when new people enter her world, they must do so with gentleness and the knowledge that her trust must be earned. If frightened by strangers or gestures, Beanie may lunge and snap. This behavior though rarely seen, has occurred with some men and occasionally with women. For this reason, Beanie will not be adopted to a home with children. She has spent time as of late in the home of a volunteer and this experience has evolved into being 95% housebroken, crate trained and highly protective of the home and everything therein. Additionally she has enjoyed playing with the many resident dogs of all sizes and genders, but unknown dogs entering the property will not be welcome as she takes seriously, her duty to protect. She must be confined to either a fenced yard, room or crate when strangers are present until she can see that they mean no harm. Only homes with a fenced yard and within a two hour drive of Sautee GA will be considered. Home visit before and after placement will be done. Potential adopters will receive a questionnaire to begin the adoption assessment for Beanie. Photos will be sent upon request which show the loving nature she shares with friends. Beanie has a sponsor whose donation has reduced her adoption fee to $25. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-04-00220Benny (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Baby Benny is the last of his litter. He came in with cherry eye which caused those interested in adopting the then chubby little puppy to decline because of his surgical need. When Benny was old enough for neutering in July 2014, the tear duct in his eye was corrected. He has had no after effects from the surgery but now that he is a bigger puppy, he has not drawn the interest experienced from his little puppy days. Cute as a button with merle ears and a few big splotches against a primarily white coat. Loves to give kisses and be cuddled. Plays nice with other dogs and is excited to receive attention from two leggers. Benny is 5 months old ... (Read More)and does not want to grow up in the world of concrete, chain link and limited attention. He still is just a baby. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-26-00466Liberty (female)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed

Our gorgeous Liberty looks like a patchwork dog. She has a coat that looks like mom and dad just put her together with pieces and parts of each one of them. She is definitely unique and very easy on the eyes. We can definitely see some dalmation in her, the rest of the patchwork is brindle. Her personality is nothing short of happy. She is UTD on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped and ready to find a family that loves to play and laugh. Please email us at TeamSKRescue@gmail.com if you are interested in bringing her home

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-16-00141Darla (female)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Darla entered the safety of the shelter in March 2014 as a 5 mon old pup having been removed from a kill facility. She came with her mother ( a beautiful spotted catahoula) who was quickly adopted, leaving the terrified young Darla to do everything within her power to be brave in the often chaotic environment. Darla continues to be afraid of strangers though she does enjoy the company of gentle dogs who will play nicely with her. Darla has the unfortunate luck to be a medium sized black dog, a color and size which is the most abundant and overlooked by adopters. Though her black coat is shiny and her pretty white paws and chest add to what ... (Read More)staff feel is a lovely young girl, she does not seem to possess the ability to reach the heart of the many visitors looking for a lifelong best friend. Early photos will show a terrified pup. Currently her photos show a growing girl who will know no life but that of a shelter if no one is willing to offer her a chance to have a comfy bed in a loving home. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Georgia
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Georgia if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
