Rescue Me ID: 17-12-02-00097Georgia and Franklin (female)

Catahoula    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Hip Dysplasia

I'd love to see these two go to a new home together, they've spent their whole lives together and are best buds. Georgia (the black one) if a full blooded Catahoula. She's about 7 years old, about 90 lbs, and is the sweetest dog I've ever met. She very mellow and low energy, she just wants to lay at your feet and be petted. She's very submissive (I suspect she was abused at a very young age) and has a moderate aversion to loud noises. She's still a great guard dog though and won't let anyone in the yard unnoticed. She has no health issues though we did have to remove a tumor from her hind leg last year. It does not appear to be returning. ... (Read More)Franklin is a mix (catahoula and hound??) of about 6 years and 75lbs. He is a very sweet affectionate dog but with a slightly more dominate nature than Georgia. Don't think you're going to pet Georgia without Franklin nosing in for his piece of the action! Franklin does have some hip issues but isn't currently on any meds and is getting on just fine but it helps that he's a pretty low energy dog as well. He is a bit sensitive about them and I'd be cautious with smaller children that could fall on him or lay on him. He's good about giving some warning if he's uncomfortable though. We have raised our son (now 4) without any incidents but we were pretty cautious during the earlier years. These guys sleep inside every night and spend a lot of time indoors but are happy to stay in our fenced yard during our absences however they won't roam if the gate is left open. We love these guys but our situation is about to change so we're trying to find a loving home for them. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-22-00102Pepper Paws (female)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Pepper Paws. This 19 month old girl has been through the mill from the start of her young life. I first had Pepper Paws as a small puppy when she was brought in to rescue with her mother and siblings. Sick, malnourished and on the brink of death. We nursed these babies back to health. Pepper Paws left rescue to what I thought would be a great forever home in February of 2016. Unfortunately that was not to be the fact. I'm still not sure what happened but in August we received notification that she had been turned in to a vet hospital in St Petersburg Florida. We tried by several means to contact the adoptive family without any ... (Read More)response. So I went to St Petersburg and retrieved our girl. She is now up to date on her shots, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventative. She is house trained, crate trained, though she does not like the crate, she has good leash manners. She gets along well with our other dogs. Not sure about cats. Is fine with older children. We are working on her minor separation anxiety issues. If you have a place in your heart for a dog that is looking for unconditional love. To apply to adopt, go to brantleyanimalrescuecoalition.weebly.com (Less)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed

Arrival date April 14, 2017 (15 months old at intake) Adoption fee $100 Molly was taken in last October 2016 by a family who was concerned for her and the impending birth of puppies. They cared for her and the babies and ensured that each pup was placed before seeking a safe shelter for the sweet girl. She has been on hold for several months as staff worked with her to overcome her extreme fear of people and new situations. She is good with other dogs. Very sweet with staff and appreciates every chance to get out of her kennel. Application form is online at: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application/ or at ... Please read them before applying. A fill-able application form under same tab can be completed and submitted online. All of our residents require an adopter approval process as we strive to place them in homes which will meet their needs and keep them safe. We do not ship nor transport our residents. Approved adopters must come to the shelter to accompany their new family member on the journey home. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a 'No kill' shelter which provides quality care and the medical services of spay/neuter-all vaccines, deworming, vet exam, standard disease testing and monthly heart worm prevention treatment for dogs. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Animals are primarily owner relinquished. The facility usually is operating at full capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoption hours are Tues-Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4. Contact or visit CSHS, 4823 Helen Hwy. 75N, Sautee, GA 30571, phone: 706-865-4135 email: smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net . Catahoula Mix    Age: Senior

Lady was found at a local convenience store. She is a very good dog. Whenever the kennels are being cleaned, she gets to walk around freely and doesn't wander. Her extremely loving, laid back personality is all American Bulldog. Her silvery, black, and red streaks of unique brindle are all catahoula. She has it all, looks and personality. PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Georgia
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Georgia if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost Georgia Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
