These sweet boys have stunning blue and green eyes. They will be UTD on core vaccines and started on flea and heartworm medication. Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Wilfred is a 6 year old Catahoula who is a wonderful, smart, high energy dog. My wife and I got him from a shelter as a puppy and we have had him for 6 Years. Our focus and time have shifted since the birth of our 2 sons. Our time and focus is now on the kids, and not so much on WIlfed. He finds alternate ways to get his energy out, and usually they involve tearing up the yard and the toddlers toys. We have a small yard and it is not enough for the dog. We would like to see him go to a home with an active owner, or someone with property and other animals. Wilfred is at his best when he is regularly exercised. Wilfred gets along with other ... (Read More)dogs after he is able to acclimate and after he calms down. He is great with my toddler and new born, he has never snapped, gnarled or bitten anyone or anything. He is a great addition to our family, however, with our current situation, it is not fair to Wilfred to have to be cooped up and 'in the way'. Please feel free to reach out with additional questions. Thank You! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-05-20-00297Chance (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chance was pulled from Animal Control on Dec 21,2017 shortly after his arrival there. Video on his FB page in Comments at: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.872311996146401.1073741862.548822128495391/1953907937986796/?type=3&theater Video in Comment 1. He had large areas of healed scar tissue that was determined to be the result of being hit and dragged by a vehicle. He had received no medical treatment for the injuries and it was quite awhile until Animal Control secured possession of Chance. The scar tissue was deep and pulling on his skin and muscles causing him to limp on front leg and 'bunny hop' on rear ones. ... (Read More)Xrays would show that his hips were intact but he may have retained the hop as a habit from the period after which the injuries occurred. He was in constant pain. He also tested positive for heartworms. First order of business was to have the one year old boy neutered, vaccinated and thoroughly examined while under anesthesia. Next step was surgery to remove the multiple deep areas of scar tissue and begin a long period of recovery. During the recovery period he spent some time in an offsite home where he was doing well in learning about housebreaking expectations. He returned to the kennels in May. He is very smart and wants to please. He gets motion sickness from traveling in the back of a car and would do best if seated in the front and with an empty tummy before ride time. He walks well on a leash. Is social with other dogs. Cat friendliness is unknown but can be tested for interested applicants by calling the office. The heartworms were addressed with the slow kill method which can be maintained through his monthly heartworm prevention pill. He is 58 pounds. Loves activity and being with people and dogs. His adoption fee is $100. A secure solid fence that is already installed at time of adoption is required. Invisible/electric fences not acceptable. Questions about Chance can be answered by calling the office at 706-865-4135. The approval process can take from 1 to 3 days and is initiated with submission of an application at the shelter or online at our website: https://www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/page/dog-adoption-application Upon receipt of application, our adoptions coordinator will contact the applicant to answer all questions and discuss needs/requirements specific to Chance. Adoption policy and application procedures are detailed at the website under tab All Adoptable Animals. Each shelter resident is placed with same due diligence that they would be given if they were our own family members. Adopters who are not within the local area of the shelter MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. Meeting the approved adopters is one of the final steps in the adoption process. We do not permit transport or shipping of our residents without the adopter in attendance. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter which provides quality care, spay/neuter-all vaccines, deworming, vet exam, standard disease testing and for dogs-monthly heart worm prevention treatment. Resident animals are owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The shelter is not permitted by GA law to accept strays. The facility is usually operating at capacity with a list of animals approved for intake waiting for space to open. Adoption hours are Tues-Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi I'm Jackie-O. I'm a very loyal and sweet dog. I would be perfect as an Emotional Support Animal, Service dog or just a loyal companion. I'm very smart and good mannered! I know all of my commands, verbal and non-verbal. I love to go for walks and play fetch. Also, I LOVE car rides and just being around people. I'm good with children and sometimes other animals but they make me a little nervous. I'm jealous of other dogs and want most of the attention but I'm great with rats and ferrets. I love them! I would be really good in a home where I can be the only dog and get loads of attention. In other words, I'm a little spoiled

Rescue introduces Patience. Patience is a catahoula leopard / staffordshire terrier mix of about 7 or 8 months of age. She is very sweet and docile. She is submissive and, like her name suggests, she is patient. She does well with other dogs and would make an excellent companion pet. She will need lots of love and attention though as she has not had much of that and lacks confidence in herself. She needs someone devoted to rescue pet and the concept of helping a pet in need. She was left with her mom and little sister by the road to starve. A good Samaritan took them in and feed and cared for them until rescue could help. If this sweet girl ... Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Videos for Molly can be seen at the shelter Facebook page. Molly has a sponsor who subsidized her fee to $25. Molly has experienced severe trauma in her young life and a peaceful home is being sought to completely bring her back from the edge. In early 2017 Molly was seen searching for food and successfully eluding contact with people. She was visibly pregnant but too terrified to trust approaching people. It took a patience and a trap to capture the young girl and bring her indoors where her kind rescuers gave her a safe enclosure to birth and raise her puppies. All babies were placed in safe homes and Molly was brought to the shelter in ... (Read More)April 2017. Initially Molly was so terrified she had to be carried from her kennel and would flatten to the ground as caretakers attempted to give her exercise and companionship. Her terror of men was overwhelming as she sought to hide in the corner of her kennel or escape to the outer portion during cleaning. Molly arrived in April 2017. For most of that time she has been on an evaluation hold as efforts were put into restoring the spirit of the gentle girl who has never display the slightest sign of aggression. Molly may do best in a female only household though others will be considered. A secure fenced yard is required. She is fine with dogs, cats and may do ok with calm gentle children. Molly is 2 years old and weighs 42 pounds. She is spayed, fully vaccinated and recently tested negative for heart worms.     Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Georgia if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Catahoulas are probably descended from the Nordic Wolfhound. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs.
