Meet Lyla! 40 lbs Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix Approx. 2 yrs old Lyla is a very sweet and affectionate dog. She is one of the most loyal dogs you will meet. Lyla gives hugs and would appreciate a family that is around often or is willing to take her on adventures. She stays by your side, and is a huge cuddle-bug. Lyla does well with other dogs, is good with kids, and doesn't mind cats. She is house broken, crate trained, and enjoys a good nap after a romp in the yard! Lyla favors the outdoors and to enjoys sunbathing or helping in the garden. She can be as active as you want her to be, meaning she can run around for a few hours but easily ... (Read More)loves to nap for just as long. Lyla is a very trusting and loving dog, and follows you everywhere. Her only bad habit is that she occasionally gets bored and shreads a towel or a sock. With appropriate chew toys and play stimulation, she will behave herself!! Lyla would do best in a home with another dog so she can get attention. If she is the only dog, she will just be extra cuddly and will follow you whever you will go. Lyla is a very easy going, happy pup and loves people. Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Illinois
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
