All family members and any dogs from the household need to be present at the time of the adoption. Adoption donation: $450 We open at 9 am Saturday mornings and we will be helping adoptions in the order of when they submitted an approved application to us. There will be a sign in sheet on the front door at ... (Read More)8:30 am so that we can pull applications for the people that arrive between 8:30-9am. Again, the order in which adoptions will come in to the shelter to see any adoptable dogs or cats first thing on Sunday mornings will be as to when the application was submitted to Animal House Shelter so there is no need to come to the shelter any earlier than 8:30 to sign in. This will be the procedure for people that arrive between 8:30-9am. After 9am, on Saturday mornings it will be first come, first serve after we help all of the adoptions that signed in between 8:30-9am. Most people submit general applications to us which do not specify a name or a particular litter they are interested in so there is no way for us to know until people arrive Saturday morning at 8:30 how many people are interested in a particular litter, puppy, kitten, cat or adult dog. We always have around 300 dogs & cats available for adoption and the adoption counselors will help you to find the right companion for your family! We look forward to meeting you! All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested and started on Tri Heart Plus & Vectra 3D. Please visit the website and fill out an online application and we will give you a call as soon as we receive it. The 'How to Adopt' page has our directions, hours and adoption policies. We look forward to seeing you soon! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-11-08-00573Charlie (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Charlie is a handsome, snuggly sweet, gentle and loving, two-year-old, 57-pound, male, chocolate and vanilla Catahoula/Pit Bull Terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian. He has warm brown eyes and a goofy, adorable grin. Charlie is full of kisses and tails wags for all the people he meets. He is living in a foster home with dogs, cats, and an eight-year-old child and he gets along with everyone beautifully. He loves going for walks and is great in the car. He really is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. He doesn't know commands, but he is loving and intuitive. He's very special. Poor Charlie was an owner-give-up to Richland County ... (Read More)Animal Control in Olney, Illinois. He was not neutered, and had heartworm, fleas, whipworm, tapeworms and roundworms. Charlie is now neutered, treated for worms, fleas and heartworm. Since he just underwent heartworm treatment, he's on a no exercise (beyond walking to relieve himself) regimen for one month. The only follow up necessary is another heartworm test in March of 2018. He is otherwise a young healthy dog who is micro-chipped, and up-to-date on vaccines. To meet and possibly adopt him, please contact sheri@petraits.com for an adoption application. His adoption fee of $250 benefits the Friends of Petraits Rescue. His medical care and heartworm treatment will be covered by the rescue, but all donations are accepted to help him and all the other pets we rescue and care for. He is being fostered in Chicago. PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Illinois
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
