|Animal ID: 32160590Trixie (female)|
Trixie has had a really hard start to life. Her previous owners kept her tethered to a tree 24/7, in all elements, with barely any protection. She lost half of her left paw and two toes from her right paw to frostbite while she tried desperately to keep her puppies warm and fed. When she came to us she was heart worm positive and scared of what life held for her. She's really come out of her shell and shown us the fantastic dog she's always been. Trixie loves cuddling with people on the couch and just hanging out. Due to her frost bite injuries she has a slight limp so she doesn't need a lot of exercise or long walks. She's good with other dogs of all sizes and currently lives with several cats. She wants to play with them but isn't quite sure what to do so if you have kitties they'll need a little bit of patience with her. She's a good alert barker, letting you know when someone is outside and she's working on politely letting people inside. She spent so long on a chain it's hard to let bad habits go! She hasn't been around small kids but we think she'd great with older children. She's recovering from heart worm treatment and has a follow up in October to confirm she is negative. She's realized how comfortable a couch is, how nice being full and warm feels and how loving some people can be. We've promised Trixie she will only ever know happiness and love the rest of her life. |Rescue Me ID: 16-07-04-00153Elsie (female)|
Elsie is a beautiful 6-year-old Catahoula/Black Mouth Cur mix. She has great cattle instincts but no formal training. She's a happy bundle of energy, gets along well with other dogs, and would do best in a home with plenty of outdoor space to run. She hasn't spent a great deal of time around small children, but she's never shown aggression toward those she has been introduced to. We'd like to keep Elsie and Hud (see separate listing) together, if possible. Their owner passed away unexpectedly, and his family is unfortunately unable to maintain the level of exercise and work they're used to. We're heartbroken to part with these sweet dogs, but we know they're happiest when well exercised. (Less)

Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Kansas if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
