Rescue Me ID: 17-08-23-00157Boone (male)

Catahoula    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We have had Boone for almost a year, and he is very smart, but also has a very strong personality as I've read Catahoula dogs are known for. He is very good with my 3 year old who climbs all over him every day, they are best buds. My husband was deployed for almost a year, and recently returned and we've discovered that he has very severe allergies to our dog. He is using an asthma inhaler, but is miserable and it's not fair after all that he has been through to not be able to breathe in his own home. We love Boone, but live in a small neighborhood with a small yard, and he NEEDS a big yard to run and explore. He is still young and has a lot ... (Read More)of playful energy. He needs someone experienced with dog training as he is a bit stubborn, but will learn very quickly. I have a local dog trainer who has worked with us, and she is willing to offer a training session to whomever adopts him because she also loves him so much. He has a microchip and up to date on all shots, will come with his large crate and other necessary items. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Kentucky
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Kentucky if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
