Rescue Me ID: 15-01-28-00502  (male)

Catahoula    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Submissive
Health: Needs to be Neutered

I do not know a lot about these sweet boys. They showed up unannounced. Nobody has claimed them. It is unfortunate that they are not microchipped or have a collar with tags. I am guessing they are Catahoulas or Heelers. Not real familiar with either breed. Extremely friendly and great with my other dogs. They are a great pair. Perfect for someone with land and has lots of love to give. Please consider giving these great boys a home. I DO NOT want to take them to a shelter.

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-07-00175Direct Current (female)

Catahoula    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Direct Current needs to go to a rural home with lots of acreage to roam. She likes to herd and hunt. She's got Catahoula genotypes: '?' mark tail, webbed toes, and a rare trait: rear dew claws! Her phenotype has the ghost patches (merle) genes & white and grey patches. She barks at strangers until she recognizes friends and loves to chases away wildlife. Not sure about kids because she wasn't raised with any around. I have to re-home her because I don't have adequate fences and I live on a dangerous highway, therefore, she needs to be re-homed to a location with open spaces to run.

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-30-00428Delilah (female)

Catahoula Mix

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament

Delilah (temporary name)was dropped off around my house a week ago. I have made friends with her hoping to get to know her personality. She seems like a great dog, but I have two dachshunds and she doesn't fit in our family at the moment. I am looking to rehome her in the hopes of finding a good home before we move. She needs someone that can handle some hyperness and would do best in a home where she can get out for a daily walk or run. I think with the proper training, she could also make a great service dog. If you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them, but I don't know very much about her.

Mommy, a Catahoula-Squirrel dog mix (according to the vet), was abandoned on Alligator Bayou in Prairieville, Louisiana on Sunday, December 14th. She weighs about 40 to 45 pounds. Mommy has demonstrated her hunting abilities a couple of times. When she came upon a rooster, she immediately raised her back leg and stood still in ... She is practically house trained and has demonstrated a high degree of intelligence. Mommy is very sweet and loves affection. (Less)

Charlie gets along well with most canines. He is smart and knows how to sit on command, & walk on a leash. Charlie is an energetic guy and would love a family with children, land or a town dweller who likes to jog. Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Kie is a sweet loveable girl. Unfortunately my older dog does not get along with Kie. She does have some basic training, sit, lay down, and working on stay. She has also been partially housebroken and really is pretty calm in the house. She does well with other dogs, just not my older dog. I know its not Kies fault, its completely my other dog that does not get along with other dogs at all. I'm not sure about her being around young children, not that she would be aggressive towards them, just in her excitement she might knock them down. Please consider giving Kie a home where she can run around and be a dog :) She really is a loveable girl. ... (Read More)Feel free to contact me so we can talk more. (Less)

Buzz is a male Boxer/Bull Terrier who was born about 9/2011. He is up to date on shots and neutered. Buzz is an alpha male and doesn't do well with another alpha male, but is good with female dogs and submissive males. He is good with kids. Buzz showed up in the parking lot of a salon one day, he thought he needed a haircut, but the salon staff thought he could do without a cut and dry so instead called our rescue to come help with this cute pup. Can you be the home for Buzz where he can get regular baths and blow dry so he doesn't have to wander the streets and find a salon on his own.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Louisiana
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Louisiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
