ALICE was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. Alice is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 15 April 2017 and at the time of rescue in February 2018 weighed around 58 pounds. 'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for ... (Read More)families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. ALICE is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Alice is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-12-14-00386SPOT (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Spot was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. Spot is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 9 December 2016 and weighs around 37.00 pound. He has been listed as a Catahoula Leopard Dog. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, so it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely. Spot is located in the kennel building and although he is a very high energy boy, he does settle down in the kennel and is well mannered and gentle. He has a lot of ... (Read More)energy he needs to expel and at playtime he runs like he is so happy. Spot does use the dog door to go outside to see what is going on and to do his business and at play time he absolutely loves to go and run and play in the snow. Being a Texas boy, this is his first experience of snow and it is definitely something he enjoys. Spot has been out playing with other dogs and he is fine, with some of the other male dogs, they have their little stand-off but it lasts a few seconds and then they are off exploring and playing. We do not have cats at the rescue, so have no idea how he would act around them. Spot does jump up a lot and this is definitely something that would need to be worked on. He seems to use humans as his spring-board. Spot is really your typical 'teenager' he is high energy, he is extremely smart, he will push your limits, but when he knows that there is no manipulating you and he respects you, then he is an absolutely wonderful dog. Did I mention that he jumps up a lot. However, with some work I have no doubt he will stop this and the rescue environment does feed his energy, when in a home and has a routine I am sure this will not be so much of an issue. He would make a great family dog, or companion to someone who wants that special buddy to take everywhere with them. %BD'%BD%BDWe do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. As mentioned Spot is full of energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a huge bonus. He rode great in the car and was happy looking out of the window. He would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that he can burn off some of his energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. He will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Honor and his humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. Spot is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-23-00176Rufus - MA (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rufus Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 4 years +/-; Neutered Male Weight: 50 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: 8+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts Rufus is a super nice fella that has a lot of energy. He is a very people-centric dog that wants and loves to please. He really likes other dogs, but some do not like him! Rufus, likes to play and to get others to play he thinks he should bark in their face. As you can imagine, not everyone likes this and some find it very scary! Rufus, just wants to have a great time and tear around and he doesn't get that it is bad etiquette. Rufus has great manners in terms of ... (Read More)house training, his crate and he even knows basic obedience/tricks! He is very, very smart. He is still strong on the leash and is working on leash manners. He will bark like a bad man to get other dogs attention if he sees them, as he is very much about attention. He does have a fear of thunderstorms and fireworks and needs someone to help him during those times. Rufus is going to do best in a very active home, that likes to run, hike, etc. He also will do best with an owner that either will take him to work or works from home; or has a short amount of time away from the home. Rufus' downfall is that he is an escape artist, he can escape from just about any fence anywhere and will do best if he is kept on leash and very active. Rufus is a dog that has a fabulous amount of untapped potential, he just needs the right person to bond with and to bring that shine out! If you are interested in fostering or even adopting Rufus please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Maine
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
