Rescue Me ID: 17-05-11-00619Tenzin - NH (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Tenzin Breed: Catahoula Leopard Hound Age: 1 years +/-; Neutered Male Weight: 45 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: No Kids: 12+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: New Hampshire If you're looking for a handsome pup, who enjoys your company and loves being rubbed then you've found him! Tenzin is an active boy who loves walks, fetching, and playing with toys. He has done great with commands, is crate trained, house trained, and very food driven. He does well with some doggy play time, but would do best in a home where he is the only dog. Although he has been around younger children he would do best in a family with no young children, ... (Read More)teenagers would be ok. Tenzin is a very smart boy and can be a little pushy at times. He can also be protective over food and toys. He has been going through training to help with these issues and has been doing well. He will do great in a home suited for his specific needs. If you are interested in adopting Tenzin please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Tenzin's adoption donation is $250 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-23-00184Sedona - NH (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sedona Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 3 years +/-; Spayed Female Weight: 45 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Unknown Kids: 6+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: New Hampshire I am a super friendly girl who happened upon some bad times early in my life. However, things are looking up in a big way! I am now heartworm free, I have gained some weight and I have more energy than I have ever had in my life! My foster mom says I am the MOST loveable dog she has ever been around. I love to give hugs and to just lie down next to her when she is sitting on the floor. I am happiest when I am with my human, it doesn't matter to me what I am ... (Read More)doing. Speaking of things that I like'| I LOVE to ride in the car. I am a very good girl in the back of my foster mom's SUV. I just sit and watch or lie down and sleep. I also love to play fetch with my Kong toy. I am especially fond of running, so the further you can throw the happier I am! While I kennel very quietly and will mostly just lie down and sleep or play with my toys, it has been hard for me to be cooped up. For the last two months I have been getting out more, spending time in the backyard, getting to go for car rides and learning about going to places like Petsmart and other pet friendly places. I am very good on the leash when in a quiet setting, but when there are other things to look at I tend to get distracted and loose some of my manners. I just need a little more time and exposure. When I see people that want to pet and coo over me, I still tend to piddle in my excitement, so please beware and be patient with me. I am super smart and I pick up on lessons VERY quickly. Don't let my excitement fool you, I am listening and learning everything you are teaching me! If you are interested in adopting Sedona please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-23-00176Rufus - MA (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rufus Breed: Catahoula Leopard Mix Age: 4 years +/-; Neutered Male Weight: 50 pounds Dogs: Yes Cats: Yes Kids: 8+ Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts Rufus is a super nice fella that has a lot of energy. He is a very people-centric dog that wants and loves to please. He really likes other dogs, but some do not like him! Rufus, likes to play and to get others to play he thinks he should bark in their face. As you can imagine, not everyone likes this and some find it very scary! Rufus, just wants to have a great time and tear around and he doesn't get that it is bad etiquette. Rufus has great manners in terms of ... (Read More)house training, his crate and he even knows basic obedience/tricks! He is very, very smart. He is still strong on the leash and is working on leash manners. He will bark like a bad man to get other dogs attention if he sees them, as he is very much about attention. He does have a fear of thunderstorms and fireworks and needs someone to help him during those times. Rufus is going to do best in a very active home, that likes to run, hike, etc. He also will do best with an owner that either will take him to work or works from home; or has a short amount of time away from the home. Rufus' downfall is that he is an escape artist, he can escape from just about any fence anywhere and will do best if he is kept on leash and very active. Rufus is a dog that has a fabulous amount of untapped potential, he just needs the right person to bond with and to bring that shine out! If you are interested in fostering or even adopting Rufus please email SLN2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-17-00457JASPER (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS. JASPER was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. JASPER is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 21 April 2016 and weighs around 45 pounds. JASPER is an adorable, sweet boy, he is great with all of the other dogs. He plays with the 5 pound chi's up to the 95 pound GSDs and he adapts his play to suit the size and type of play. He is gentle with the small dogs ... (Read More)and then wrestle and chase the bigger ones. His best friend here at the rescue is GHOST. When JASPER arrived he was very reserved and quiet, but he had been through so much with all that happened in his previous life, getting caught, the shelter, transport from Texas to Maine and then arriving at the rescue, I'm sure he was overwhelmed. After just 24 hours of decompressing and adjusting to his new temporary life his sweet personality started to shine. JASPER uses the dog door to go out and do his business, he happily eats with the other dogs and has never shown any kind of aggression or grumpiness. He is a happy confident boy, so much life, energy and love to give. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. JASPER would suit a relatively active fun family that has the time to work with him on her obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both JASPER and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page! JASPER is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500 This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org JASPER is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Maine
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
