Rescue Me ID: 16-11-16-00494Archie (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Archie was given to our family 6-7 months ago. He does not like isolation and appears to have some anxiety when being left alone. I was told he was a rescue. I am unsure whether or not he is pure bred. Our family is on the go too much for his personality and don't think we can give him what he needs.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Michigan
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Michigan if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
