No one is obligated by filling out our application first but it saves time and a lot of needless questions when we speak. ABOUT THIS DOG Speck is a two-year-old neutered male Catahoula mix in Roundup, Montana. He is sweet-tempered, eager to please, and affectionate. Though a bit hand shy, he is not overly timid and greets strangers enthusiastically. ... (Read More)He is about 55 lbs - he has a lot of young dog energy and will require an active home. Speck is currently living with his owner who has had him since he was a puppy, but because they do not have an appropriate fenced area for him, he roams into the neighbor's property, and they have accused him of killing their chickens. While there is no evidence that Speck is indeed the culprit, this accusation endangers his life. His owner is confining him to the garage while she is away from the house until a more appropriate home can be found. Speck gets along with other dogs, and currently lives with an elderly shepherd mix and and toy breed dog. Because of the chicken accusation (which is not uncommon for Catahoulas), we recommend a home without fowl, cats, or other small pets. Transport might be available for this boy, and we would also take a committed foster home for him. To foster or adopt Speck, please fill out an application below: (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Montana
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Montana if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost Montana Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs.
