Finn, like most catahoulas, needs to be kept both physically and mentally active. He is doing very well in his foster home - loving the yard, the pool, the other dogs, and the kids! Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

67lbs of pure athletic handsomeness. This big man's pictures do him zero justice. The first time I laid eyes on him he took my breath away. He's absolutely one of the most perfect and stunning animals I've seen, and I work with Catahoulas and see a lot of beautiful dogs. He isn't for the faint of heart....well, make that faint of muscle too :-) He needs a take charge athletic owner/family. We haven't tested him around toddlers, but he loves people. He would do best with a family with older children and who are very athletic. He gets along with other dogs, but he's extremely powerful and therefore, can hurt another dog even in play, ... (Read More)so would do best in a home without other animals. He is ball obsessed and loves loves loves to chase the ball all day. So a backyard and a ChuckIt would make this boy a happy guy. He would make a fabulous hiking or running partner. BamBam is a really fabulous boy. He's currently living in Manhattan, but since he's rough with the other dogs at parks, really needs a home with a yard all to himself. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-09-00401Ronin (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Deaf

Gorgeous Ronin was dropped off alongside Nook, our heartworm positive white shepherd. This boy is the product of double merle breeding - when an irresponsible breeder mates two merle dogs there a recessive condition emerges in a few pups that can result in hearing and/or vision impairments. Ronin is deaf, but he doesn't let that slow him down one bit. Ronin is a 1-2 year old happy boy that will need a fenced in yard so that he has a safe area to play. He will not be available until May. Please email barkingbackrescue@gmail.com for an app! Ronin is great with other dogs, but has NOT been cat or kid tested.

Coffee is a 9-month-old cutie pie, approx 33lbs. We rescued this beautiful girl from a hunter who had her and her sister Rita tied behind a barn for the first 6 months of their lives. And they are still such gentle souls. We're not quite sure of her mix, but her sister has spots. This baby is going to make someone a phenomenal family member. She's sweet as can be, super athletic, can leap 4 ft hurdles without touching, fast as lightning and loves loves other dogs and children. We truly do not know why she has not found her forever home yet.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in New York
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost New York Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Catahoulas are probably descended from the Nordic Wolfhound. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Teams of Catahoulas were once used to control feral pigs. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
