Rescue Me ID: 16-04-09-00309Honey Bun (female)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Rescued from Philadelphia ACCT on March 30, 2016, this sweet girl time-stamped and made it out! Honey Bun was time-stamped because of a mass they had found on her back. Because of very generous donors and a wonderful foster network, we were able to save Honey Bun and get her immediately to the vet to have X-rays taken and an evaluation done. Our wonderful Dr. Patten of Liberty Vet Clinic thinks that she has a soft tissue injury and that the lump will go away on its own. So far, Honey Bun seems good with other dogs and really loves to be with her humans. She has never been trained, and may have never walked on a leash, so we will start ... (Read More)working with her right away to help her learn how to be a well mannered girl. Her disposition is fantastic and we are so excited to welcome her to the PMAR family. (Less)

Katie is a very sweet , just turned 5 year old girl who is now in the process of looking for a new person to be her rest of forever person to love. Her owners went through a divorce and sold their home, so now Katie finds herself in need of a new human to love. A few words from her previous owner- She is most likely all Catahoula. She doesn't do well with infants, she may be kind of iffy. She is great with adults and older kids. She is picky about the other dogs she wants to interact with, and can set strong boundaries with those other dogs. I consider her a true dog that doesn't enjoy being babied. She is the hunter and watcher. She does ... (Read More)love to cuddle and be played with. She's completely house broken and walks great on a leash. She was raised with a cat, but tends to play too rough with them. Katie's foster mom thinks she is a very sweet girl, who deserves to have a forever home of her own. She is just another good, sweet, dog who has been affected by circumstances beyond her control. She may be best as an only dog since she is picky about who she hangs out with. Unless you are a patient human with experience on introducing dogs and your dog is very laid back and will not jump all over Katie. (Less)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] Ruby is a 5 year old girl who is in need of a new home for the best part of her life. She is past all the puppy training, and will make a great companion for someone. If you are retired and looking for someone to hang out with she just might be your gal! If you have a fenced in yard where she can nose around an then lay on the patio for a nap, you may just be her dream come true. Ruby is noted as being special needs. She does have a history of seizures. We have had Ruby to our vet for a check up and blood work. Blood work came back completely normal and exam shows no clue as to why Ruby has seizures. She is ... (Read More)on Phenobarbital to help control the seizures and it seems to help keep things under control with only one in a month's time. Ruby's previous owner was hospitalized and is no longer able to care for her. A family friend was supposed to help but has not stepped up for Ruby. Ruby spent many days in a single room never getting outside. She was then surrendered to a shelter and we were asked to help. We were told that mom was catahoula and dad was lab. Original pictures were not clear. After some back tracking and detective work, we found out mom was half catahoula and half lab. Dad was newfie and lab. So Ruby is really about 1/4 catahoula. And we don't hold that against her. She is a super sweet girl with a lot of love and kisses to give. Ruby rides in the car very well. She is crate trained, house broken, knows basic commands and loves to be outside. She loves to walk, and walks well on leash, and has all the playfulness of a young dog, so don't think this 5 year old lady is a couch potato. Her foster home really likes her and says she has a soft, kind look to her when making eye contact. Ruby does well with other dogs big and small. She has previously lived with another dog. She doesn't seem to be interested in cats (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in New York
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.

lnteresting Catahoula Trivia Low-Cost New York Spay & Neuter Clinics
Catahoulas only need to be bathed about twice a year. Vikings would have brought Catahoulas' ancestors to the New World hundreds of years before the Spanish arrived. Catahoulas are especially well suited to boar hunting.
