URGENT: FOSTER NEEDED Nalaya is a STUNNING young girl with a personality to match. She is a beautiful white dog with soft fawn colored ears and soulful eyes. Nalaya stole lots of hearts during her time at the shelter with her charm and grace. She made friends everywhere she went and the shelter staff were desperate to keep her alive, but in a rural high intake shelter, this is a task that is easier said than done. We committed to Nalaya when she was at the shelter and we are so glad we did! Nalaya loves ALL other dogs no matter how large or small. She would probably do best in a home without cats, but she is lovely with all people. We ... (Read More)realized shortly after Nalaya arrived to us that she was totally deaf! Despite this, Nalaya has been a breeze to train and we would be happy to offer training tips and suggestions to her new family. You can also visit deafdogsrock.com for more information about working with deaf dogs. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please go to www.virginiapawsforpits.org and fill out an adoption application. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Catahoula in Virginia
Catahoula Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Catahoula, or Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, is an intelligent, loyal, and territorial breed. Catahoulas are affectionate with their own families but intolerant of strangers. Catahoulas need a lot of time and attention from their owners and are best matched with people who have experience training intelligent dogs. A Catahoula that is left alone and ignored may become aggressive or destructive. Early socialization is imperative, especially with children. Catahoulas are very physical and need a lot of exercise. Some can adapt to apartment life while others cannot; the safest bet is a home with a large fenced yard or open land.
